OVA
Description
Skydive serves as the Air Warfare Strategist for the Aerialbot combiner team. His defining trait is a deep fascination with aerial combat theory over direct fighting, possessing extensive knowledge of aerial warfare history and tactics. This expertise allows him to replicate any observed flight pattern within his design limits, potentially making him the Autobots' most skilled flier. Despite this capability, he displays modesty and a bookish nature, often seeking refuge in libraries rather than joining battles. His technical specifications include a maximum speed of Mach 2.6, a range of 1400 miles, laser-guided missiles in jet mode, and a nega-gun in robot mode that disrupts molecular bonds.

Within Generation 1 cartoon continuity, Skydive emerged on Earth when Optimus Prime retrofitted damaged Cybertronian ships into jets to combat the Decepticon Stunticons. Vector Sigma granted him and his teammates independent personalities, initially creating ambivalence toward the Autobot cause. A critical turning point occurred when Megatron sent the Aerialbots nine million years into the past. Witnessing Megatron's brutality against unarmed Cybertronians cemented Skydive's loyalty to the Autobots. He subsequently engaged in numerous missions, fighting cosmic rust, rescuing Perceptor, and battling Trypticon. He consistently combined with his fellow Aerialbots to form Superion, achieving vital victories against Decepticon combiners like Menasor and Bruticus.

The *Scramble City* OVA featured Skydive defending Metroplex's construction site. This battle highlighted "Scramble Power," the ability for combiners to swap limbs. During the conflict, limb-switching errors occurred between Superion and Menasor, including Wildrider attaching to Superion as a leg. Skydive and his team were ultimately overpowered by Menasor and Bruticus until Metroplex intervened. The OVA ended with the emergence of Trypticon, a cliffhanger left unresolved in subsequent media.

Marvel Comics presented a different origin: Wheeljack constructed Skydive on Earth using reverse-engineered combiner technology, activated by Optimus Prime via the Matrix. Early programming gaps caused tactical errors, including a near-fatal incident where Superion almost harmed a human. After reprogramming, Skydive operated under Grimlock's command. Starscream destroyed him and his teammates over New York during the Underbase conflict, though they were later revived using Nucleon energy. Spin-off stories depicted him in the Earthforce unit, aiding in base defense and experiencing operational mishaps like misidentifying security threats.

Dreamwave Productions' comics offered an alternate origin, depicting Skydive created on Cybertron pre-Earth. After adopting Earth-based alt modes, he merged into Superion to intercept a nuclear missile, sacrificing himself. Humans later recovered his components for potential reconstruction.

Toy lines emphasized Skydive's combiner versatility. His 1986 figure could attach as any limb in Scramble City-style combiners, including Metroplex. Later iterations included redecoed figures in Generation 2 (1992) and Universe (2008/2009) lines. A 2015 Combiner Wars update featured enhanced articulation, weapon options, and a modernized design while retaining his classic grey, black, and gold color scheme.

An obscure "Autobot Super Scramble" combiner configuration appeared in Japanese media, combining Skydive (as the right arm) with members of the Technobots and Protectobots. This formation emphasized high intelligence, speed, and firepower but never received an official toy release.
