Description
Koi Yoshinaga is a first-year student at Minami Kanagawa High School, beginning at age 15 and later turning 17. She possesses medium-length ochre hair often worn in twin tails, distinctive purple eyes, and stands 145 cm tall, marking her as the shortest in her class. Her childlike figure features characteristically half-open eyes and a small visible fang when she smiles. She typically wears her school uniform with an unbuttoned shirt and short black socks.

Her family operates the fly fishing tackle shop "Permit." Koi has three younger brothers: Hayato, and twins Niji and Tora. Her father, Ryota Yoshinaga, is a passionate fisherman who frequently leaves both shop duties and household management to Koi. Her mother, Reiko Yoshinaga, travels often for work, resulting in Koi shouldering significant domestic responsibilities, including caring for her brothers with a parental affection, especially towards the twins. Her father originally intended to name her using the kanji for "carp" (魚), but her mother chose "love" (恋) instead; both share the pronunciation "Koi." Her surname, Yoshinaga, combines "lucky/good" (吉) and "eternal" (永).

Koi displays a reserved and mature demeanor, often appearing serious or unfriendly upon first meeting. She is reliable and observant, naturally assuming an "older sister" role within friendships. Though she helps at the family shop, she lacks enthusiasm for fishing itself and prefers seeking conventional employment in the future. She excels at rowing boats and possesses extensive knowledge of fishing tackle, which she humorously contrasts with her interests in fashion. Her responsibilities have honed her skills in housework and interpersonal communication.

She shares a lifelong friendship with Hiyori Minagi, dating back to nursery school. Koi uses the childhood nickname "Yamahi" for Hiyori, derived from Hiyori's former surname Yamagawa; its continued use reflects Koi's lingering discomfort after Hiyori changed her surname upon her mother's remarriage to Koharu's father. Koi deeply regrets failing to adequately support Hiyori after Hiyori's father's death, which caused a temporary rift. Koi later facilitated reconciliation within Hiyori's family by encouraging her mother's remarriage.

Koi's relationship with Koharu Minagi evolves from initial jealousy over Koharu's closeness to Hiyori into mutual trust, with Koharu occasionally calling her "big sister." Koi experiences moments of vulnerability, like blushing when Koharu cuddles her or panicking when Koharu expresses appreciation during fishing trips. She also mentors others, advising Aiko Ninomiya on maintaining friendships and supporting Futaba Fukumoto.

Throughout her experiences, Koi reluctantly participates in fishing activities with Hiyori and Koharu, gradually finding enjoyment, such as showing her catches to her brothers. She joins a school camping trip where she reassures Aiko about her bond with Futaba. Her introspective nature aids group cohesion, and she helps Koharu develop confidence as an older sister, occasionally labeling her a "joker" for unconventional ideas. Despite her growth and enjoyment of fishing moments, she remains resolved not to inherit the family shop.
