TV Special
Description
Sugar is a four-inch-tall snow fairy apprentice from another realm. She possesses pink hair, expressive eyes shifting between purple and blue in different lights, and small translucent wings. Her signature attire features a fluffy white snow rabbit-inspired bonnet, a white dress adorned with a purple bow and rabbit-like tail accessory, matching booties decorated with snowflake embellishments, and a choker necklace bearing a snowflake motif. She carries a piccolo essential for weather manipulation and a purse functioning as hammerspace storage.

Her mission as a trainee season fairy specializing in snow generation is to locate an undefined "Twinkle" in the human world, aspiring to graduate into a full-fledged fairy like her mother, renowned for creating warm, cherished snow memories. Her training brings her to Muhlenburg, Germany, where she collapses from hunger and encounters 11-year-old Saga Bergmann. Revived by Saga's waffle—which she adorably mispronounces as "waffo"—Sugar develops an intense attachment to the treat and temporarily moves into Saga's home. Her playful, impulsive, and occasionally bratty demeanor disrupts Saga's meticulously scheduled life. She exhibits toddler-like curiosity, frequently acts without considering consequences, and expresses affection through kissing people or objects. Despite her flaws, she demonstrates protectiveness toward friends and serious dedication to those she cares about.

Sugar's character development intertwines with Saga's emotional growth. Her magic is initially unstable, causing unintended snowfall incidents. Her search for Twinkles, misguidedly targeting shiny objects like Greta's ring, creates comedic disruptions. A pivotal moment occurs when Sugar loses her magic seed, vital for fairy progression, and it sprouts on Saga's toy piano, symbolizing their deepening bond. Later, her magic flower withers due to unresolved training, leading to a life-threatening crisis and transformation into an egg in the manga adaptation. Saga mobilizes community support to locate Twinkles, reviving Sugar. This culminates in Sugar mastering snow creation to craft a meaningful final snowfall for Saga before departing to the fairy realm. Post-graduation, Sugar becomes invisible to Saga, though subtle hints suggest her continued presence.

The Summer Special OVA revisits Sugar years later through 15-year-old Saga's reminiscence about an elementary school play, "Princess and Fairy." During this memory, Sugar and fellow fairies—inspired by a past "Bear Pianist" performance—stage their interpretation of the play, reflecting their ongoing fascination with human experiences. This reinforces Sugar's enduring connection to Saga's milestones and highlights her ability to draw parallels between fairy tales and real-world relationships, particularly through artistic expressions like theater. Her interactions within the fairy community remain consistent, maintaining close bonds with fellow apprentices Salt and Pepper while navigating mentorship from adult fairies like Turmeric, Ginger, and the Elder.
