Description
Dekim Barton served as top aide to pacifist colony leader Heero Yuy and witnessed Yuy's assassination by Odin Lowe. After tracking down and killing Lowe, Dekim's unfulfilled revenge transformed into an extreme hatred for Earth. He faked his death in AC 188 and recruited five disgruntled OZ scientists to construct Gundam mobile suits for Operation Meteor. This genocidal plan involved dropping space colonies onto Earth to cause global devastation, followed by the Gundams seizing control. Dekim intended the Barton family to rule the aftermath.
Rejecting Heero Yuy's diplomacy, Dekim embraced a ruthless social Darwinist philosophy. He believed victors alone define historical eras and that the public inherently submits to whoever holds power. His pursuit of control stemmed from a conviction that "might makes right," viewing all human lives—including allies and family—as expendable tools. This was demonstrated when he callously dismissed his granddaughter Mariemaia after accidentally shooting her, declaring her replaceable. His son had previously exposed that Dekim's actions were motivated solely by personal ambition for power, not genuine revenge for Yuy's death.
Operation Meteor faced early resistance when four engineers (excluding Master O) and the intended Gundam pilots rejected its genocidal scope. Dekim's biological son, Trowa Barton, remained loyal, intending to report the defections. The real Trowa Barton was killed by an engineer protecting family on Earth. Another technician, later known as "Nanashi" (No-Name), assumed Trowa's identity and proceeded with a modified operation.
Following the Eve Wars and the rise of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation (ESUN), Dekim resurfaced, having groomed Mariemaia as a puppet leader. Exploiting her lineage as Treize Khushrenada's daughter, he rallied former OZ loyalists and supplied them with Serpent mobile suits based on incomplete OZ designs. After capturing Vice-Foreign Minister Relena Darlian, he threatened to execute the original Operation Meteor by crashing Colony X-18999 onto Earth when his base faced destruction by Zechs Merquise in the Tallgeese III. This plan was thwarted by the Gundam pilots disabling the colony's engines.
During the occupation of Brussels, Dekim confronted Relena's pacifist appeals, asserting the public obeys only victors. When Mariemaia shielded Relena from his gunfire, he displayed indifference to her injury. Immediately afterward, a soldier within his ranks, expressing remorse for betraying Treize Khushrenada's ideals, shot and killed him.
