Description
Carrot Glasse is the central protagonist and the de facto leader of the group of Sorcerer Hunters. As a young man of about seventeen years, he has black hair that is typically cut to his ears and brown eyes. His common attire consists of a tank top, boots, and arm guards, and he carries a longsword.
Carrot is the son of Onion and Apricot Glacé, who were former Sorcerer Hunters themselves. He grew up on Mount Saint Hordic alongside his younger brother, Marron Glasse, and the two adopted Misu sisters, Tira and Chocola. This upbringing forged a strong fraternal bond between Carrot and his brother. From a young age, Carrot was protective of Marron, often defending him from bullies who targeted the younger boy for his feminine appearance.
Personality-wise, Carrot is famously lecherous and possesses a nearly insatiable libido. He is known for comically and persistently propositioning almost every attractive woman he meets for dates or sexual encounters. He has a habit of tripping or falling dramatically while declaring his desire for women, and will even eat objects off the ground in moments of strangeness. This behavior, however, has two notable exceptions: his childhood friends, Tira and Chocola Misu. He regards the two sisters strictly as family, with a brotherly affection, and feels uneasy about the notion of a romantic relationship with either of them.
This dynamic is the source of much of the series' conflict, as both Tira and Chocola harbor deep romantic feelings for Carrot and take great offense to his constant pursuit of other women. They interpret his behavior as infidelity, and their unrequited love frequently leads to them punishing him with whippings, which has instilled in him a significant fear of both sisters. Despite his outward obsession with women, Carrot does possess a chivalrous streak; he will immediately cease his advances upon learning that a woman already has a boyfriend. Underneath his perverse exterior, he has a good heart and genuinely cares for the safety and well-being of his friends and family.
Within the story, Carrot serves as the team's leader, though he is otherwise considered the weakest member in terms of conventional strength and magical ability. He seldom uses his longsword effectively due to extreme imprecision. His true power is a hidden ace in the hole. When he comes into contact with a Sorcerer's magic, his innate abilities, Aranju and Zoanthropy, activate. Aranju allows him to absorb magic, but the reaction triggers his Zoanthropy, transforming him into a giant, rampaging monster.
The form he takes is one of twelve beast genes based on the animals of the Chinese zodiac. In this uncontrollable state, he attacks wildly with immense power but loses all sense of self. He requires intervention from his teammates to return to normal. In the animated adaptation, Tira must whip him to revert him; in the manga, she weakens the monster so that his brother Marron can extract the absorbed magic. These transformations are eventually revealed to be a manifestation of his nature as the human reincarnation of Hakaishin, the God of Destruction.
Carrot undergoes notable character development as the series progresses. While he consistently avoids romantic commitment to the Misu sisters for much of the narrative, he eventually acknowledges his deeper feelings for them. In the manga, he ultimately professes his love for both Tira and Chocola. By the story's conclusion, he marries Tira, and Chocola accepts the marriage while remaining determined to bear his first child. This development reveals that his persistent rejection and fear were, in part, a mask for a hidden attachment and his inability to confront the nature of his childhood bonds.
