Description
Basil "Buzz" Nikvest holds the rank of lieutenant in Branch, a clandestine A.D. Police unit tasked with neutralizing rogue androids—Boomers—and thwarting terrorist threats. His past is shaped by profound trauma: a malfunctioning Boomer killed his wife two years before the series’ events, and a mistaken shooting of a child he misidentified as a Boomer led to his transfer to Branch. Despite elite marksmanship skills, he now refuses to wield firearms, burdened by guilt.

Buzz’s academic legacy includes a thesis, *The Domino Effect Explosion system*, outlining how urban infrastructure weaknesses could trigger catastrophic chain reactions. Political strategist Kenji Sorime later weaponized this research, staging attacks that framed Buzz and destabilized the city. Professionally, Buzz maintains a stoic exterior, favoring non-lethal Boomer takedowns—a philosophy shaped by Rod Kimball, a human-empathetic Boomer ally who sacrifices himself to save lives, challenging Buzz to view Boomers beyond mere machinery.

His investigations intertwine with fraught dynamics among Branch operatives: Reiko Michaelson, whose unspoken affection for Buzz contrasts with Angel, a former lover embedded undercover against the Genom Corporation. These relationships mirror his evolution from solitary enforcer to collaborative agent, catalyzed by Kimball’s death and Branch’s dissolution under Sorime’s conspiratorial machinations.

In his defining confrontation, Buzz faces Sorime, who taunts his firearm aversion. Michaelson’s intervention shifts the tide, enabling Buzz to reclaim his agency symbolically by wielding a weapon to exact justice. This pivotal act, paired with tributes to fallen allies, bridges his traumatic history with his duty, forging a tempered resolve to uphold justice without surrendering to vengeance.
