Description
Sergeant Michaelson serves in the specialized Branch division of the A.D. Police, tackling crimes involving rogue androids known as Boomers. She specializes in operating heavy weapons and vehicles, including piloting specialized aircraft like the Fire Bee helicopter. Michaelson frequently engages in direct combat against malfunctioning Boomers, often taking proactive measures that place her at the forefront of confrontations. This aggressive approach sometimes causes friction with the main A.D. Police force due to perceived interference.

Initially viewing Boomers strictly as malfunctioning machines, a common A.D. Police perspective, her understanding evolves through key incidents. In 2034, investigating rogue Boomers linked to a malfunction-prevention drug, she deploys her combat skills, neutralizing threats using her helicopter and firearms.

A year later, in 2035, Michaelson undertakes an undercover operation posing as a prostitute to investigate murders targeting Boomer prostitutes. During this mission, she encounters Eve, a high-society Boomer prostitute experiencing human-like emotions and visions. Michaelson adopts a stray cat that later transforms into the monstrous "Boomer Crusher" responsible for the murders. After defeating this creature in a confrontation ending on a water tower, she witnesses Eve's subsequent suicide, driven by despair and hallucinations. This event profoundly impacts Michaelson, leading her to openly acknowledge Eve's humanity through visible grief and tears, marking a pivotal shift in her perspective.

By 2040, her partnership with Rod Kimball, a Boomer member of Branch, further influences her evolving view of artificial life. While investigating their commander Takahashi's disappearance, their vehicle is ambushed by a hostile helicopter. Kimball sacrifices himself by shielding her from a missile explosion, an act of protection that solidifies her belief in Boomers' intrinsic value beyond programming. She explicitly articulates this conviction, stating Boomers were created to protect people. Following Kimball's death, she locates the politician Kenji Sorime, who orchestrated the conspiracy against Branch and citywide bombings, and intervenes to shoot him moments before he kills Buzz Nikvest. Her actions provide closure to the Branch division's conflict.

Michaelson exhibits a tomboyish personality characterized by impulsiveness and a readiness for physical confrontation. She harbors unspoken romantic feelings for her colleague Buzz Nikvest, recognized by others in Branch, including Kimball. Her professional relationships within the team are defined by loyalty and a shared commitment to duty, though her personal connection to Buzz remains unresolved.
