Description
Sana Kurata enters life as an abandoned infant found on a park bench by novelist Misako Kurata. Following a temporary stay at Kamura Academy, Misako legally adopts her. At five years old, Sana learns of her adoption; Misako simultaneously reveals her plan for Sana to become an actress, intending to write the book *My Daughter and I* to locate Sana's birth mother while asserting her own permanent maternal claim. This news triggers "Doll Syndrome" in Sana – a condition marked by emotional detachment and excessive sleep, rooted in her fear of being returned to her biological family. Sana launches her acting career with the Komawari Theater Troupe, later starring in the popular television show *Child's Toy* while balancing school life. At age nine, encountering homeless man Rei Sagami, she brings him home; Misako hires Rei as Sana's manager, and he becomes a surrogate family member. Sana develops a misguided childhood crush on Rei, which she later recognizes as platonic affection.

Entering Jinbou Elementary School at eleven, Sana's energetic, justice-driven personality clashes with class disruptor Akito Hayama. Discovering Akito blackmails their teacher, she retaliates by photographing him in a compromising position. However, she uncovers his behavior stems from familial neglect: his emotionally distant father and a sister who blames him for their mother's death during childbirth. Sana intervenes by casting Akito's family in a TV movie mirroring their struggles, catalyzing their reconciliation. This act forges a deep bond between them, though Sana remains oblivious to Akito's developing romantic feelings.

Sana's personal life faces upheaval when Misako publishes *My Daughter and I*, exposing the adoption publicly and triggering media scrutiny. Sana meets her birth mother, Keiko Sakai, and half-sister Mariko but firmly rejects them, affirming Misako as her true family. Concurrently, she grapples with Rei's rekindled relationship with his ex-girlfriend Asako Kurumi, initially misinterpreting her own feelings before accepting their familial dynamic.

In middle school, Sana's friendship with transfer student Fuka Matsui complicates her relationship with Akito when Fuka dates him based on false tabloid rumors about Sana and co-star Naozumi Kamura. During a film shoot with Naozumi, Sana sustains a leg injury inflicted by his obsessive fans but perseveres, channeling the pain into her performance. Asako later helps Sana realize her love for Akito, leading to a confession after his breakup with Fuka. Their relationship solidifies despite challenges, including Akito briefly dying from a stab wound while preventing a classmate's suicide – an experience where he envisions his mother affirming Sana's earlier words about his birth.

Akito's impending move to America for his father's job triggers a recurrence of Sana's "Doll Syndrome," causing severe emotional withdrawal and physical decline. Her recovery begins only after confronting her fears of abandonment. Years later, as adults, Sana and Akito marry but face marital strain during her pregnancy; Akito's fear of losing her to childbirth complications (stemming from his mother's fate) leads to separation. They reconcile after their daughter's birth, though their argumentative dynamic persists. In high school, depicted in a 2025 special, Sana continues acting, reframing her identity with a new hairstyle, while Akito is explicitly acknowledged as her boyfriend.
