Movie
Description
E. Honda is a professional sumo wrestler featured in the animated film adaptation. He competes internationally in wrestling matches for prize money. During a Calcutta competition, he defeats Dhalsim after Dhalsim forfeits upon spotting Ryu. Honda then thanks Ryu for the unintended assistance, offering him half his winnings out of Japanese fighter brotherhood and providing temporary lodging. Later, Honda encounters Ryu again during Ryu's mountain training with Ken. This meeting is interrupted by M. Bison and Guile's arrival. In the ensuing fight, Honda battles Bison's subordinate Balrog while Ryu and Ken face Bison. Honda defeats Balrog and subsequently aids Guile.
Beyond the film, Honda is a highly-ranked Ōzeki sumo wrestler. He trained from childhood to become the greatest sumo wrestler. Distressed by sumo's lack of international recognition, he entered the World Warrior tournament to prove its effectiveness and legitimacy as a martial art. This motivation fuels his involvement in other conflicts, including investigations into Shadaloo's biochemical experiments on sumo wrestlers, where his distinctive facial paint and name aided covert operations.
His travels to demonstrate sumo's strength led him to spar with fighters like Ryu and defeat Sodom twice. On one mission, he infiltrated a Shadaloo base alongside Zangief, collaborating to destroy the facility. He later sheltered several of Bison's brainwashed Dolls at his place until they regained their memories.
After Shadaloo's downfall, Honda returned to Japan. He resumed sumo wrestling, managed a traditional sento bathhouse, and trained disciples. He later embarked on gourmet travels with Hakan while seeking new students. His commitment to promoting sumo included efforts for its Olympic recognition, leading him to consider joining the International Olympic Committee. He eventually opened the sumo-themed restaurant Chanko House Edomon in Metro City.
