Description
Confined to a castle tower under her father's rule, Princess Arete lives isolated from the outside world. She watches the daily lives of common people below with deep curiosity, yearning to experience life beyond her gilded cage. This isolation fuels her desire for freedom and self-determination, leading her to secretly venture into the town despite restrictions.

Her father, the king, uses her as a pawn to maintain the kingdom's wealth. Suitors, often knights, undertake quests for magical artifacts to win her hand in marriage, a system she recognizes as exploitative. She demonstrates perceptiveness by seeing through the false bravado and dishonesty of suitors like Dullabore, who invades her private space uninvited, highlighting her lack of autonomy.

A pivotal moment occurs when the powerful sorcerer Boax arrives, seeking her hand due to a prophecy foretelling she will end his immortality. He enchants her, suppressing her vibrant personality and curiosity, transforming her into a passive, traditional princess who accepts his proposal. Boax takes her to his remote castle, reveals he doesn't love her, and imprisons her in a dungeon to prevent the prophecy.

Imprisoned, her initial suppressed state under enchantment leaves her passive, wishing only for rescue. During this time, she forms a crucial friendship with Ample, a villager who brings food in exchange for Boax providing water. Ample's resilience, shown through her project to dig a well and achieve independence, serves as an inspiration. Encouraged by Ample, she engages in storytelling and creativity, which becomes instrumental in breaking Boax's enchantment. She regains her sense of self, spirit, and determination.

Free from the spell, her cleverness and agency fully return. She receives a magic ring granting three wishes. She initially uses wishes for seemingly mundane items like paint and sewing supplies, later employing these resources strategically. She uses paint and thread to create a disguise and mentally constructs a story that frees her mind, showcasing how these skills become tools for liberation. Boax, still believing her enchanted, sends her on a quest to retrieve a ruby from a golden eagle. Instead of complying, she returns secretly to his castle to investigate the source of his magic.

Her investigation reveals the truth behind Boax's ability to provide water and exposes his limitations; he relies on remnants of lost knowledge, not being a great wizard. Attempting to release the water source for the village, she is discovered. Confronted, Boax destroys his own castle in despair, unleashing the water and accidentally losing the gem granting him eternal life, thus fulfilling the prophecy. This act liberates the village from dependence on him.

With the village saved and Boax defeated, she is finally free. She chooses to fulfill her original desire to see the golden eagle, demonstrating her enduring curiosity. Ultimately, she decides to live freely among common people, traveling the world to experience life directly and use her own hands to create her future.
