Description
Desslok, originally named Abelt Dessler or Desler, rose to Supreme Leader of the Garmillan Empire (also called Gamilon or Gamilas). Born March 19, 2166, into the ruling Desler family, his aristocratic childhood involved familial pressure. He learned young of Garmillas's imminent natural collapse after accidentally overhearing a state meeting; his brother Mathius intervened to save his life, extracting a blood oath that Desslok would secure a new homeworld. Following Mathius's death in 2183 and a subsequent civil war, Desslok unified Garmillas at age 18, establishing the Greater Garmillan Empire in 2188.
Driven to save his species, Desslok launched interstellar expansion under the "Desler Doctrine," publicly framing Garmillan imperialism as spreading the pacifist ideals of neighbor planet Iscandar. His actions, however, included brutal tactics against Earth starting in 2191, authorizing radioactive planet-bomb bombardments to make Earth habitable for Garmillans, pushing humanity toward near-extinction. His regime enforced authoritarian control via the secret police Imperial Guard, offering limited integration for conquered species.
Desslok's motivations intertwined with his lifelong affection for Queen Starsha of Iscandar, whom he admired and sought to impress. During a youthful diplomatic mission to Iscandar, he proposed unifying their peoples and adopted her cosmic salvation mission. Though she declined, his feelings persisted, influencing later decisions.
After the space battleship Yamato defeated his forces near Garmillas, Desslok narrowly survived his flagship's destruction when his "Dessler Cannon" attack backfired against the Yamato's reflective shield. Discovered and revived by the White Comet Empire (Gatlantis), he served as military advisor to Emperor Zwordar. During this alliance, Desslok pursued a vendetta against the Yamato, deploying biological weapons and asteroid traps. Imprisoned after betrayal by Zwordar's subordinate Sabera, he escaped and renounced his enmity with Earth, sparing Susumu Kodai (Derek Wildstar) and Yuki Mori during a boarding action and providing critical intelligence to defeat the Comet Empire.
Following the Comet Empire's defeat, Desslok dedicated himself to finding a new home for surviving Garmillans. His return to the Garmillas system revealed the planet being strip-mined by the Dark Nebula Empire; a battle to reclaim it accidentally triggered Garmillas's destruction. He then aided Starsha and her family as catastrophe displaced Iscandar, signaling his transition to an Earth ally.
In later conflicts like the Bolar Wars and Aquarius crisis, Desslok formally allied with Earth forces. He negotiated acquiring planet Galman from the Bolar Federation and fought alongside the Yamato to protect refugees and counter galactic threats. His arc concluded as head of state for the unified Galman-Garmillas nation.
