Ayuko Rara navigates two parallel realities, each casting her in a divergent role. In one world, she abandons husband Ken Sanada and daughter Mitsuki Sanada under mysterious circumstances, leaving Mitsuki convinced she eloped with another man. The alternate reality positions her as Hiroshi Rara’s wife and mother to Mitsuki Rara, while secretly co-leading the antagonistic Rara Army with Kumu, a cryptic alien entity. Maintaining a facade of obedience to Hiroshi, Ayuko strategically manipulates events, exploiting emotional fissures to secure her objectives. She coerces Mitsuki Sanada into piloting the HIMC mecha by weaponizing her jealousy toward rival Kazuki Yotsuga, and brainwashes Mitsuki Rara into serving as a living weapon against the Earth Defence Force.

Her methods intertwine psychological manipulation, hypnosis, and familial coercion. During a climactic battle, Ayuko’s forces near victory until Kazuki disrupts her plans by piloting the Zinv mecha, whose destruction merges both realities. Relocating adjacent to the Sanada family in the unified world, Ayuko investigates Kazuki’s bond with Zinv while inexplicably emerging as Akane Yamano’s older sister. Fan theories propose ties between Ayuko and Tenchi Muyo!’s Seto Kamiki Jurai based on aesthetic resemblances, alongside speculation that her dual-reality existences may originate from a singular entity.
