Description
Koichi, identified across media though with varying surnames like Yamano, Furumi, or Kamiya, is the distant descendant and chosen successor of an extraterrestrial entity named Babel. Babel arrived on Earth 5,000 years prior and attempted to signal his homeworld by compelling humans to build the Tower of Babel, a plan thwarted by a computer malfunction that destroyed the tower. Inheriting Babel's legacy, Koichi manifests extraordinary abilities during adolescence, transforming from an ordinary Japanese schoolboy into a protector of Earth. These powers include superhuman intellect, physical strength, telekinesis, and psychic energy projection.

Recognized by the Tower of Babel's computer system as Babel's legitimate heir, Koichi gains command over three ancient guardians: Rodem, a shape-shifting entity appearing as a black panther or woman; Ropross, a pterodactyl-like mechanized creature capable of supersonic flight; and Poseidon, a colossal humanoid robot emerging from the ocean depths. These guardians serve as his protectors and weapons.

His primary adversary is Yomi, another descendant of Babel possessing comparable supernatural abilities. Yomi, previously considered a potential heir but rejected by the tower's computer system—resulting in memory erasure—commands a global network including scientists, psychics, cyborgs, and combat robots called Baran in his quest for world domination. Koichi repeatedly confronts Yomi and his forces across diverse locations, from deserts housing the tower to hidden bases in the Swiss Alps and Tibetan mountains, leveraging his guardians and psychic powers.

In the sequel *His Name Is 101*, Koichi is imprisoned by the CIA under the designation "101." His blood, found to have regenerative properties capable of creating cures, is exploited to produce artificial superhumans. Upon learning this, he escapes and dedicates himself to eliminating these artificial espers. During this arc, his three guardians remain confined by the CIA in an underground nuclear test site, forcing him to operate without them.

A further sequel, *Babel II: The Returner*, depicts Koichi resuming his defender role years later. Here, Ropross and Poseidon receive technological upgrades. The conflict escalates to involve the entire United States military, with Yomi resurfacing, recovered from prior defeats, to join this broader confrontation.

Koichi's abilities evolve across these narratives. Initially reliant on his guardians and nascent psychic powers, he later demonstrates advanced telepathy, energy manipulation, and the capacity to drain or absorb opposing psychic forces. His transformation includes accepting the mantle of protector despite personal sacrifice, rejecting a normal life to combat global threats.
