Description
Resurrected by the Mycenae Empire's Emperor of Darkness after his defeat by Mazinger Z, the former Dr. Hell returns as Grand Marshall Hell. He ascends to command the Mycenae forces, replacing the fallen Great General of Darkness. His resurrection follows the destruction of his air fortress Gool and Hell Castle.
As Grand Marshall, Hell possesses a striking mechanical form: light blue skin, an eyepatch over his left eye, and a purple body accented with light gold, including prominent shoulder padding. Long white hair, a beard, a mustache, and horns attached to a cockpit housing his body complete his visage. His right arm transforms into a hooked combat blade. This form bears only partial resemblance to his original humanoid self.
Commanding the Mycenae armies, Grand Marshall Hell enforces control through ruthless, fear-based tactics. He discards his predecessor's brute force and honor, instead employing underhanded strategies, psychological manipulation, and taboo methods. This leadership causes friction within the empire, diminishing loyalty among factions who perceive him as lacking the Great General of Darkness's charisma and honor. His objectives fuse the Mycenae Empire's goal of surface domination with a personal vendetta against the Kabuto family and Photon Power Laboratory.
His vendetta against the Kabuto family intensifies. He personally engineers the destruction of the Science Fortress Lab, killing Kenzo Kabuto, and relentlessly targets Great Mazinger and its pilot, Tetsuya Tsurugi. Though retaining subordinates like Scarabeth and Ligern, he shows less tolerance for failure than before and readily discards allies who outlive their usefulness. His capabilities expand beyond science to direct combat; he wields a whip and his bladed arm to ensnare or slash foes, commanding advanced Mycenae technology including fortified Mechanical Beasts and fortresses like Demonika.
In later continuities, such as *Mazinger Z: Infinity*, Grand Marshall Hell resurfaces decades after his defeat in *Great Mazinger*. He rebuilds with enhanced Mechanical Beasts and orchestrates a scheme to capture the entity "Infinity," initiating "Goragon" – a universal reset to judge worlds. Confronting Koji Kabuto in a body resembling his Grand Marshall form, he lectures on his motives before a final battle at the crown of Infinity. He also appears in adaptations like the 2003 film *Mazinkaiser: Deathmatch! Ankoku Daishogun*, leading Mycenae forces against the Mazinger Army before ultimate defeat.
Core personality aspects persist across all incarnations: relentless drive for conquest, deep-seated cruelty, and strategic cunning. His resurrection amplifies his pride and fixation on revenge against those who thwarted him, an obsession that often overshadows broader tactics and contributes to his defeats.
