He possesses black hair, green eyes, and arranges five circular hair clips asymmetrically—three on his left and two on his right. His standard shihakushō uniform features a Zanpakuto modeled after a traditional katana, distinguished by its light blue hilt and rectangular tsuba. Naturally timid and prone to anxiety over Karakura Town's frequent Hollow attacks, Ryunosuke nonetheless displays bravery during crises. He intervenes to save his partner Shino Madarame from multiple Hollows, suffering grave wounds until Ichigo Kurosaki rescues them, eliminates the threats, and tends to his injuries. Regaining consciousness in Ichigo's bedroom, Ryunosuke encounters Orihime Inoue and observes Ichigo's clash with the Quincy intruder Asguiro Ebern. Amid the Wandenreich invasion, Ryunosuke returns to Soul Society with Shino. Hidetomo Kajōmaru briefs them on the Quincy-Shinigami war before Ryunosuke warns of Yhwach breaching the Seireitei barrier and witnesses Hidetomo's defeat by a Wandenreich operative. He subsequently relays news of Ichigo's arrival in Soul Society and donates Reiatsu to open the gate to the Soul King Palace. Three years post-war, Ryunosuke resumes guardianship in Karakura Town. His older brother Rikichi Yuki aids a brief return to Soul Society to deliver Kisuke Urahara's wedding gift to Rukia Kuchiki and Renji Abarai. While once inspired by Urahara, Ryunosuke's admiration wanes after enduring years of the inventor's pranks. Ryunosuke maintains average spiritual power among Shinigami. Neither his Zanpakuto's Shikai nor Bankai abilities have been disclosed.
