Description
Ranban, the central antagonist of the first season, emerges from the same royal bloodline as Mito. Their species biologically determines gender during puberty, but Ranban’s incomplete transition results in imprisonment and exile from royalty, igniting a vengeful crusade against Mito, who evaded similar persecution to attain galactic prominence.
Cloaked in a helmeted armor reminiscent of Darth Vader, Ranban initially obscures their true form, later revealed to mirror Mito’s due to their nearly identical Mail Suits. These suits mask both characters’ youthful physiques, visually connecting their shared origins while underscoring their divergent fates.
A climactic battle unfolds when Ranban seizes a bracelet from Aoi, misinterpreting it as a power amplifier. The removal instead unleashes Aoi’s suppressed abilities, overwhelming Ranban and ending their reign as the season’s antagonist.
Season two charts Ranban’s redemption, joining former foes against emerging threats after confronting their gender-related trauma and reckoning with past actions. This arc weaves themes of identity and societal healing, though their future role remains undefined.
Ranban’s narrative intertwines fluid gender identity with systemic oppression, using their species’ biology to critique rigid societal norms. Their unresolved transition and subsequent ostracization frame them as a tragic figure, driven to violence by marginalization yet ultimately seeking reconciliation.
