Description
Tamu Tamu, also called Tomtom or Tamborin in localized versions, acts as Temple's steadfast companion throughout her journey. His background includes escaping an abusive employer known as "Boss," who forced him to perform under harsh conditions in a traveling musical troupe. This history shapes his initial wariness and strong sense of responsibility, contrasting Temple's sheltered upbringing.

He first meets Temple after she becomes stranded far from home, joining her with his three animal companions: Dora the cat, Gappe the duck, and Chuppi the mouse. Together, they form a musical ensemble with Tamu Tamu as drummer. Beyond music, he serves as Temple's protector and emotional anchor, prioritizing her safety and well-being—such as carrying her through a storm during her illness and organizing the group to find medicinal saffron flowers for her fever.

His character development focuses on growing trust and leadership. Initially reluctant to accept help, like hesitating over a gondola couple's hospitality, he learns to embrace kindness without viewing it as debt. His bond with Temple evolves from camaraderie into mutual affection, culminating in subtle romantic connection. Tamu Tamu consistently demonstrates resilience, using music to uplift others during adversity—playing through storms to calm Temple or aiding an elderly hermit's recovery after sheltering them.
