Araessa, known as Nicorico in the French dub, is a rooster who serves as a lowly guard in the Crayon Kingdom. He joins Princess Silver on her quest to find the Grim Reaper after her parents are turned to stone, largely because he had no other duties at the time. An orphan raised by a tigress, Araessa is also tasked with photographing flowers and scenery for the kingdom's hanafuda production during the journey.

He is often critical and blunt, regularly reproaching Silver for her bad habits. Though he maintains a grumpy demeanor, he genuinely cares for those close to him, including Silver and Stonston. As the group's harsher and more frequent critic, he attempts to keep both of them in line, countering Silver's spoiled behavior and Stonston's gluttony. Araessa functions as a non-human sidekick and often adopts the role of the only sane man, with snarky remarks that remain a consistent trait throughout.
