Description
Tsukikage Toshi is a fifth-grade student at Oedo Elementary School and one of three modern descendants of the Shinsengumi, alongside Isami Hanaoka and Soushi Yukimi. His name honors the historical figure Hijikata Toshizō. Toshi meets Isami on her first day, forming an immediate bond over their shared heroic lineage after discovering ancestral artifacts in the Hanaoka basement. Among these artifacts is a message urging them to combat the Black Tengu Organization.
Toshi displays a geeky and energetic personality, fueled by passionate enthusiasm for fictional media, especially the tokusatsu series *Virtual Sentai Ganbaman*. He also secretly enjoys the magical girl series *Magical Fairy Uruuru Lovelin*, attempting to conceal this interest to avoid appearing unmanly. Academically, he struggles with kanji, often misspelling characters.
His primary strength lies in athletics, particularly football, where his exceptional kicking ability proves vital for wielding his ancestral weapon, the Dragon Eye. This spherical artifact harnesses spiritual energy and delivers powerful impacts when kicked. Toshi's combat style revolves around this weapon, contrasting with Isami’s Dragon Sword and Soushi’s Dragon Fangs bow.
Family significantly shapes his life. He has a younger brother, Kei, who shares his love for *Ganbaman* and often accompanies him on a flying tricycle. Their parents are Yasuyuki and Jan Tsukikage. Toshi’s playful, sometimes immature demeanor is reinforced by his brother, though he demonstrates loyalty and warmth within his family.
Throughout the series, Toshi continues to balance school life with his duties as a Shinsengumi descendant. His hot-blooded determination aligns with his allies against the Black Tengu Organization's threats. His development involves embracing both his athletic prowess and unexpected interests, gradually reconciling his identity. Toshi’s role within the trio positions him as the "mean" counterpart in the group dynamic, with Soushi as the "nice" and Isami as the "in-between," their collective camaraderie foundational to their missions.
