Gerozaemon Geroda, alternatively called Frog Man or Croaker in some versions, began as one of the Eight Demons summoned to aid Takeshi Onimaru after his possession by the God of Wind. Bound by his demonic nature to support Onimaru's ambitions, he took the form of a humanoid frog. His initial task involved leading assaults against Yaiba Kurogane and his allies under Onimaru's command. Following his defeat in battle and failure to eliminate Yaiba, Onimaru's faction deemed him expendable. The demon Snakeman explicitly dismissed him, citing his uselessness to their cause, leaving him without allies or purpose.
Spurned by Onimaru's forces and revealing a fundamentally non-malignant nature, he sought sanctuary with Yaiba's group. They accepted him despite his former allegiance, integrating him into their team for the rest of their quest. This marked his shift from antagonist to supporting ally.
In combat, he relies primarily on physical prowess, employing sumo-style body slams and wielding an axe. His elongated, adhesive tongue serves as an unconventional weapon, used effectively against foes like the chameleon demon. His original Japanese speech includes frequent use of "gero" (ribbit), though adaptations like the Philippine-English dub present his dialogue normally. Emotionally vulnerable to despair, news of his abandonment triggered a violent outburst against Onimaru's Kuro Oni minions.
He remains a consistent member of Yaiba's core group throughout the series, frequently appearing alongside them in key conflicts against Onimaru's forces and the extraterrestrial threat of Princess Kaguya. His presence extends into crossover media like the "Detective Conan vs. Kid vs. Yaiba" OVA, where he participates actively. His likeness also appears in cameo forms within "Detective Conan," including Halloween costumes and merchandise.
His arc concludes with his continued allegiance to Yaiba's team, contributing to their efforts to safeguard Earth from various threats.
