Description
Aries Shion, a Gold Saint during the 18th century Holy War against Hades, survived alongside Libra Dohko. Trained in Jamir under Silver Saint Altar Hakurei, he mastered cloth repair and gained the ability to perceive Saints' past lives through damaged Cloths. In his youth, the celestial entity Balron Lune tempted him with knowledge of all human history. Shion's hesitation provoked Lune to inflict a near-fatal neck wound. The workshop Cloths sustained him until Hakurei arrived, saving him via a blood transfusion that left matching scars on both arms.

After the Holy War, Shion assumed the role of Grand Pope of the Sanctuary for over two centuries. He trained Mu as his Aries successor, teaching cloth repair and psychic abilities. Preparing for Athena's infant reincarnation and the coming conflict, Shion sought a papal successor. He chose Sagittarius Aiolos over the more powerful Gemini Saga, sensing "something terrifyingly dark" within Saga. This choice led Saga to assassinate Shion shortly after the announcement. Anime adaptations featured inconsistencies regarding Shion's appearance and an alleged brother named Arles, elements absent from the original manga.

Resurrected by Hades during the later conflict, Shion received his youthful body and a dark Surplice. Ostensibly serving Hades with a 12-hour lifespan to kill Athena, his true mission was to warn Athena and the living Saints of Hades' plans. He confronted his former pupil Mu and battled Dohko at the Aries Temple until both temporarily exhausted their power. Shion later revealed his loyalty by restoring the Bronze Saints' Cloths with Athena's blood and delivering her Cloth for the Underworld fight. After commanding the Bronze Saints to invade the realm of the dead, his resurrected body dissipated.

In the spin-off *The Lost Canvas*, set in the 18th century, Shion participates directly in the Holy War. He helps open the gate to Hades' Lost Canvas using the Athena Exclamation alongside Leo Regulus and Sagittarius Sisyphos. Later, he defeats the Specter Balron Lune at the Venus Temple using the "Praesepe Celestial Wave," a technique learned empirically from Hakurei that fuses surrounding souls into an energy sphere capable of defeating gods. Post-war, he oversaw Sanctuary reconstruction while Dohko guarded Hades' seal. Fourteen years later, during *Lost Canvas Gaiden*, Shion confronted Tenma's father Kairos attacking the Sanctuary. Exiling both himself and Kairos to another dimension, he witnessed Tenma and Sasha defeat Kairos. He subsequently relinquished his papal position as peace returned to the Sanctuary.

Appearing as a young Gold Saint in *Saint Seiya: Next Dimension* during the 18th century war, Shion invades the Elysium Fields alongside Dohko and Pegasus Tenma but is impeded by Hades' barrier. Viewing his future as Pope in the Crateris Silver Cloth's sacred water, he returns to guard the Aries Temple. There, he battles his former training partner Suikyo, now the Garuda Specter, and intercepts infiltrating Specters.

Shion mastered the seventh sense, enabling light-speed movement and cosmos energy comparable to a galaxy. His signature techniques are the defensive "Crystal Wall," creating a reflective barrier, and the offensive "Stardust Revolution," summoning stellar energy (manifesting as a dimensional space containing a galaxy in *The Lost Canvas*). He possessed exceptional psychic powers for telekinesis, teleportation, and telepathy, alongside expertise in cloth restoration.
