Description
Shaka de Virgem guards the sixth temple in the Sanctuary as the Virgo Gold Saint. Born in India, he trained beside the Ganges River, meditating and communing with Buddha from childhood. This deep connection fostered his reputation as Buddha's reincarnation or chosen disciple, granting him profound insight into human suffering, mortality, and enlightenment. His early reflections on life's transience—witnessing disease, hunger, and death—culminated in philosophical dialogues with Buddha, who taught him death is a transition, not an end. This wisdom earned him the title "the man closest to god" and mastery of the Eighth Sense, enabling existence beyond physical death.

He attained the rank of Gold Saint at age seven, donning the Virgo Gold Cloth. Early missions saw him confront Ikki on Death Queen Island to eliminate the Black Saints and their leader, Django. After Ikki defeated them, Shaka intervened, effortlessly overpowering Ikki and erasing his memory of the encounter as an act of mercy, warning that their next meeting would restore those memories and the attendant fear. During the Sanctuary arc, he initially served the Pope, unaware it was the corrupted Gemini Saga, believing the Pope's essence radiated divine goodness. This allegiance included aiding in the brainwashing of Leo Aiolia after Aiolia rebelled against the Pope's authority.

When the Bronze Saints invaded the Sanctuary, Shaka defeated Pegasus Seiya, Andromeda Shun, and Dragon Shiryū with minimal effort, dismissing them as insignificant. His pivotal battle with Phoenix Ikki saw Ikki, recalling their prior encounter, resist Shaka's illusions and techniques like the Six Paths of Samsara and the Tenbu Hōrin, which stripped away his senses. Ikki's resilience and embrace of human bonds forced Shaka to acknowledge the value of mortal perseverance and emotion, marking a shift from detached superiority to reluctant respect. The confrontation ended with both warriors teleported to a distant dimension; Shaka could have escaped alone but chose to return with Ikki, signaling his growing alignment with Athena's cause.

In the Hades Chapter, Shaka defended the Sanctuary against Hades' forces. He used layered illusions to delay the resurrected Gold Saints—Gemini Saga, Capricorn Shura, and Aquarius Camus—in the Cancer Temple, but Saga shattered these deceptions with the Galaxian Explosion. After eliminating accompanying Specters, Shaka confronted the trio in the Twin Sala Trees Garden, symbolic of Buddha's death. Outnumbered, he disabled their senses using the Tenbu Hōrin and provoked them into deploying the forbidden Athena Exclamation, a technique with Big Bang-like destructive power. He sacrificed himself to this attack, knowing it would obliterate his physical form while allowing his spirit—via the Eighth Sense—to enter the Underworld alive and support Athena's campaign. His final act inscribed a blood message on Sala Tree petals to alert Athena of the unfolding threat.

Shaka's abilities center on transcendent cosmic manipulation. By keeping his eyes closed, he accumulates vast cosmic energy, unleashing catastrophic attacks upon opening them. His techniques include the Tenma Kōfuku to induce suffering illusions, the Rikudō Rinne to cycle opponents through the Six Realms of reincarnation, and the Tenbu Hōrin to sever sensory perception. His mastery of the Eight Sense allows him to traverse dimensions and retain consciousness after death, cementing his role as a strategic asset in Athena's war against the gods.
