Shaka de Virgem guards the sixth temple in the Sanctuary as the Virgo Gold Saint. Born in India, he trained beside the Ganges River, meditating and communing with Buddha from childhood. This deep connection fostered his reputation as Buddha's reincarnation or chosen disciple, granting him profound insight into human suffering, mortality, and enlightenment. His early reflections on life's transience—witnessing disease, hunger, and death—culminated in philosophical dialogues with Buddha, who taught him death is a transition, not an end. This wisdom earned him the title "the man closest to god" and mastery of the Eighth Sense, enabling existence beyond physical death.
He attained the rank of Gold Saint at age seven, donning the Virgo Gold Cloth. Early missions saw him confront Ikki on Death Queen Island to eliminate the Black Saints and their leader, Django. After Ikki defeated them, Shaka intervened, effortlessly overpowering Ikki and erasing his memory of the encounter as an act of mercy, warning that their next meeting would restore those memories and the attendant fear. During the Sanctuary arc, he initially served the Pope, unaware it was the corrupted Gemini Saga, believing the Pope's essence radiated divine goodness.
