TV-Series
Description
Doronjo, born Hiroko Sasagawa, reigns as the cunning mastermind behind the Doronbo Gang across multiple media iterations. Commanded by the shadowy alien entity Dokurobei, she directs subordinates Boyacky and Tonzura in retrieving shards of the Dokuro Stone or Dokuro Rings—artifacts falsely peddled as treasure keys but later exposed as fragments of Dokurobei’s scattered extraterrestrial form.

Renowned for her vanity and strategic acumen, Doronjo wields a skull-shaped pipe and favors lavish baths. Her signature attire features a sleek black leather suit, maroon cape, bat-winged mask, and a bold “D” emblem, with stylistic variations across adaptations. Beneath her villainous exterior lies sporadic vulnerability, manifesting in fleeting fantasies of abandoning crime for domestic tranquility, including marital aspirations.

In both the classic series and 2008 remake, Dokurobei transmits missions via explosive devices that tear her outfits, spurring elaborate fraudulent schemes and mecha constructions. These plans inevitably collapse under protagonist intervention, culminating in humiliating defeats and Dokurobei’s punitive retaliations, often involving slapstick violence. The 2008 version introduces subtle romantic undercurrents with the hero, epitomized by a dream sequence envisioning their marriage, hinting at latent emotional depth.

The original narrative concludes with the gang dissolving after uncovering Dokurobei’s alien manipulation, prompting Doronjo to embrace civilian normalcy. The 2008 iteration briefly disbands the group before reuniting them under Dokurobei’s fabricated new objectives.

A 2015 sequel traces her legacy through descendants exiled from the Yatter Kingdom, ruled by a corrupted Dokurobei. Granddaughter Dorothy preserves the original gang’s memory in a shrine, while great-granddaughter Leopard adopts the Doronjo mantle to lead a rebellion against the tyrannical regime, armed with inherited ideals and ancestral anthems. Doronjo’s posthumous voice guides Leopard in the finale, implying her enduring ideological presence.

Cross-media expansions include the Royal Revival OVA, pitting the gang against rival villain factions, and a live-action prequel chronicling Doronjo’s origins—a harsh upbringing and tragic choices forging her criminal path.

Her leadership oscillates between exasperation and unexpected loyalty toward subordinates, occasionally shielding them from harm. Later narratives reveal grudging respect for her heroic adversaries, mirrored in her descendants’ eventual reconciliation with the Yatterman legacy.
