Nanae Kayama hails from the Doll Kingdom's royal family as the twin sister of Queen Yae. When the demon Devaul possessed Yae, Nanae escaped to the human world with her daughter Orie and infant granddaughter Licca, bringing three protective super-dolls and a summoning pendant for their safety.

In the human world, Nanae serves as Licca's primary guardian. She initially activates the lead guardian, Doll Licca, by reciting the incantation "Tururu Kururu Tureiro Kureira" through her pendant whenever danger threatens Licca. Later, Nanae provides Licca with a pink danger-detecting bracelet, the Calling Ring, which she eventually upgrades to allow direct summoning of Doll Licca without her mediation. Nanae similarly distributes summoning items to Licca's friends—a green bracelet for Sumire to invoke Doll Izumi and a blue one for Dai to summon Doll Isamu.

Nanae's exile stems from her conflict with the possessed Yae. This history shapes her as a resourceful protector who prioritizes family safety over royal status. She avoids direct combat, relying on the Doll Knights for defense, and consistently balances Licca's security with her granddaughter's ordinary human life.
