After Flora discards the ring and Honey Honey's cat, Lily, swallows it, Fênix shifts his objective to retrieving the gem.

He tracks down Honey Honey, offering to purchase her cat. When she refuses, he pursues her while sometimes aiding her escapes from Princess Flora's suitors. During these encounters, Fênix learns of Honey Honey's orphan past and develops genuine concern for her wellbeing, even as he continues seeking the ring. His background is later revealed: he is the son of Erik, leader of a nomadic tribe. This tribe's ritual involves young women walking barefoot on hot coals to reveal a royal rose-shaped tattoo, identifying Honey Honey as Erik's long-lost daughter and Flora's sister, making Fênix and Honey Honey siblings-in-law.

Fênix assists Honey Honey in escaping the antagonist Slag, who destroyed her kingdom and held her captive in Siberia, utilizing help from a mystical alien connected to the Tunguska event. He continues supporting Honey Honey through subsequent trials, including enslavement in Constantinople after reuniting with her father. After Honey Honey is sold to an Indian sultan, Fênix helps her secure a magic carpet, enabling their travels across continents. His protective role extends to New York, where he participates in the final confrontation involving King Kong. Once Honey Honey saves Princess Flora from King Kong and their familial bond is confirmed, Fênix returns the ring to Flora.

Fênix marries Honey Honey, completing his evolution from thief to committed protector and partner. Princess Flora discards the ring again, initiating a new cycle of pursuit by her suitors, in which Fênix plays no part.
