Description
Red Alert began as a fierce Cybertronian warrior until a devastating battle injury permanently cost him his hand. This trauma forged a deep disillusionment with war, making him a reluctant fighter who valued healing above combat. Nevertheless, he remained steadfast in providing critical battlefield medical aid to allies, regardless of personal danger. Starscream inflicted the injury that led to his hand being replaced with a versatile multi-purpose medical tool.

Serving as the Autobots' chief medic, science officer, and technologist, he applied his skills in repair, strategic planning, and technology. Under Optimus Prime's command during the early Mini-Con conflict, he investigated Mini-Con village ruins and hacked Decepticon satellites to track the Mini-Con reactivation signal on Earth. His analysis proved vital for missions like erasing space bridge trace data to safeguard Autobot base locations.

On Earth, he adopted a durable emergency-rescue SUV alternate mode. His primary Mini-Con partner, Longarm, provided specialized weaponry: a chest-mounted disc launcher and a claw rifle. He often remained at Autobot headquarters overseeing defenses, conducting repairs, and managing communications. He created the robotic spy-bird Laserbeak for reconnaissance and protecting human allies. His cautious, methodical nature frequently clashed with Hot Shot's impulsiveness, though mutual respect grew through repeated rescues and shared experiences.

Critical events tested his resolve. He suffered near-fatal injuries during Megatron's assault on Autobase Earth. Assuming temporary command in Optimus Prime's absence, he was overwhelmed in combat. Stranded on an alien planet with Hot Shot and Decepticons, he battled Nemesis Prime. During this conflict, Longarm sacrificed his life force to reformat him into an enhanced Powerlinx configuration with new colors and capabilities. He also crucially saved Smokescreen's spark by constructing a new body after critical damage.

Facing Unicron, he initially opposed allying with the Decepticons but joined the final assault. He facilitated human access to Unicron's interior and survived the chaos-bringer's defeat. Later, during the Unicron Singularity crisis, he monitored a destabilizing black hole from a Cybertron space station. His attempt to collapse the singularity using a gravitron grid failed, prompting redeployment to Velocitron alongside Hot Shot. There, he adopted a missile truck alternate mode and a more expressive demeanor while retaining his technical and medical duties. Severe injuries from battling Megatron necessitated another physical upgrade, after which he joined the Cybertron Defense team to combat Scrapmetal infestations.
