Description
Ricky, born Patrick in Mirrorside Village, functions as the Living Doll for Shadow Patrick. Educated alongside John, Louise, and Shirley prior to joining Shadows House, his stern nature fueled regular clashes with John but fostered a strong bond with Louise. During their pre-selection days, Louise persuaded him to visit a circus, where they discovered an orphan girl later christened Emilico. Collaborating to enroll her in the selection under the pseudonym “Kate,” Ricky trimmed and styled her hair to enhance her prospects. Post-brainwashing through coffee, he was assigned as Patrick’s Living Doll.

Initially prideful and calculating, Ricky focused on advancing his master’s status, often antagonizing Shaun and others. Early endeavors included capturing Barbie to curry favor and striking Shaun for disrespecting a Star Bearer. His demeanor shifted during the maze challenge after interacting with Lou; he bandaged her injured leg, displayed growing concern for her well-being, and developed romantic feelings. Internal conflicts emerged when he impulsively gifted her a flower, questioning his preference for Lou over her Shadow counterpart.

Ricky’s unwavering loyalty to Patrick drove him to strategize alliances and swear oaths in his master’s name to secure their social position. Their relationship deepened through shared vulnerabilities, culminating in Patrick declaring them “soulmates.” Ricky gradually abandoned manipulation for honesty, assisting Emilico during the Debut by supplying shears at Patrick’s urging and reconciling with Shaun through tearful apologies, even entrusting Patrick’s safety to others.

Patrick, reliant on Ricky for guidance and emotional stability, concealed insecurities about his feeble soot powers—capable of nullifying others’ abilities—beneath a veneer of arrogance. Trapped during the Debut, he found solace in Emilico’s offer of an orange slice and flower, sparking an enduring affection that led him to cherish blossoms and openly pursue her. His growth manifested in defending Barbara during a soot-induced crisis and soothing her with a flower, showcasing newfound empathy.

Their partnership thrived on mutual dependence: Patrick praised Ricky as “indispensable,” while Ricky’s tactics bolstered Patrick’s influence. They coordinated seamlessly during the Kidnapping Arc, rescuing Emilico and Kate. Post-Debut, Patrick openly addressed their shared insecurities, fostering transparency. Their synchronized actions during threats, such as evading Edward, underscored a partnership refined through adversity.
