Description
Young Doraemon came off the production line at the Matsushiba Robot Factory on September 3, 2112. A power surge, caused by temporal terrorists fleeing the Time Patrol, resulted in an electrical defect during his manufacturing. A critical screw detached, sending him tumbling into a dump truck bound for an industrial furnace. He was saved by Noramyako, a female robotic cat dancer, who became both his first acquaintance and eventual love interest.
Because of this manufacturing flaw, Doraemon performed poorly at the robot academy. Principal Teraodai documented his difficulties, which included frequent short circuits during typing tasks, poor stamina that led to falls, erratic flight with his Take-copter, excessive food consumption, and malfunctioning gadgets like the Anywhere Door. These issues classified him as an outmode. The principal humorously suggested disposal in an incinerator before reassigning him to a specialized class for machines with unique individuality.
In this class, Doraemon met peers such as El Matadora, Dora Med III, Wang Dora, and the bullies Jaides and Sunekuchi, who taunted his appearance and tried to steal his 4D pocket. Noramyako stepped in to defend him. Over time, Doraemon formed friendships despite his academic struggles and occasional punishments for failures. Class activities included playing with children, weightlifting, and leisure time in rivers and floating dormitories.
Before graduation, Noramyako encouraged Doraemon about the upcoming Robot Audition and gave him a dorayaki to lift his spirits, which became his favorite food. During the audition, his presentation malfunctioned with explosive gadgets and失控 baby trolleys, nearly causing his rejection until the infant Sewashi Nobi accidentally selected him. Sewashi's parents initially considered returning Doraemon to the factory but accepted him due to their son's immediate bond and the impracticality of return.
As Sewashi's caretaker, Doraemon grew close to him. During a clay modeling session, Sewashi instructed a robotic mouse to adjust the sculpture's ears, but the mouse misinterpreted and gnawed off Doraemon's actual ears, causing a severe phobia of mice. A medical error during surgery led to complete ear removal, leaving him bald. Noramyako's laughter at his appearance deepened his distress.
In a depressed state, Doraemon mistakenly consumed a sorrow potion instead of a cheer-up potion, resulting in prolonged weeping that washed away his yellow paint to reveal a blue undercoat and permanently altered his voice. Later, he helped rescue Sewashi from temporal terrorists and lost his 4D pocket in the process. Noramyako apologized for her earlier reaction and expressed admiration for his new look. On Christmas, Sewashi gifted him a blue, earless clay figure, and Principal Teraodai provided a replacement pocket. Doraemon was then sent back in time by Sewashi to improve the future of Nobita Nobi.
