Description
Prince Siegfried, a royal heir burdened by the responsibilities of his coming of age and melancholy rooted in childhood grief, encounters a crowned swan while riding with friends Benno and Adolf near a lake. He intervenes to stop Adolf from shooting the swan, resulting in Adolf being turned into a statue by an unseen force. Compelled, Siegfried follows the swan alone to a remote castle.

At the castle, he witnesses the swan transform into Princess Odette. She reveals her curse by the sorcerer Rothbart, forcing her to live as a swan by day, breakable only by a vow of true and complete love. Siegfried declares a connection felt upon seeing her eyes and insists she attend his birthday ball the next night so he can choose her as his bride. Despite her initial refusal due to Rothbart's control, Siegfried's determination convinces her, shifting him from melancholy to purposeful devotion.

Rothbart imprisons Odette to thwart this and sends his daughter Odile, disguised as Odette, to the ball. Unaware, Siegfried is captivated by the disguised Odile. He publicly pledges his love and announces her as his future wife, believing her to be Odette. The real Odette, having escaped imprisonment with animal companions, watches helplessly, filled with despair by Siegfried's mistaken pledge.

Realizing his error upon Rothbart's triumphant reveal and Odile's transformation, Siegfried pursues them to Rothbart's castle. A confrontation ensues. Cornered by Rothbart and facing death, Siegfried chooses to impale himself with a sword rather than let Odette sacrifice herself by agreeing to marry Rothbart to save him. His self-sacrifice triggers a powerful light that destroys Rothbart and Odile, simultaneously undoing all of Rothbart's curses. This breaks Odette's enchantment, reverts Adolf to human form, and reunites other transformed characters. Siegfried survives the castle's collapse and reunites with Odette at sunrise amidst the ruins.

His journey progresses from princely duty and sorrow to decisive action driven by love, culminating in a selfless sacrifice to protect Odette and break the curse, affirming the transformative power of his committed love.
