Description
Natsumi Asaoka, widely recognized by her nickname "L" or "Eru" (Elle) originating from "L Size," stands out due to her exceptional height of 1.80 meters (5 feet 11 inches) and voluptuous physique. This stature, significantly taller than average Japanese girls and notably towering over her love interest Shunsuke Aoba, combined with her prominent bust, frequently positions her as a focus of fanservice, with scenes emphasizing her attributes even distracting typically indifferent characters. She is known as Lisa in the Italian dub (episodes 41-95) and Lydia in the French dub.

Transferring to Sunshine School as a new student coinciding with Shunsuke's arrival, their first encounter occurs on the school's Foundation Day, a holiday Shunsuke mistakes for a regular school day. Despite Shunsuke's initial gruffness and reluctance towards women, Natsumi develops immediate affection for him due to his atypical reaction: treating her with normalcy instead of staring at her height or figure, contrasting societal perceptions viewing her as unusual.

Her personality shines as exceptionally sweet, gentle, cheerful, agreeable, and kind-hearted. She exhibits intelligence, judiciousness, energy, and stubbornness in pursuing her feelings. Confident despite societal perceptions of her height and rarely expressing anger, she embodies the "Gentle Giant" archetype. She remains openly expressive about her romantic feelings for Shunsuke, consistently initiating closeness despite his dismissive denials of their relationship, showcasing patient persistence.

Living in the school's dormitory, she becomes deeply involved with Shunsuke's family, particularly assisting his mother's struggling women's apparel and lingerie shop. Her willingness and competence in this environment contrast with Shunsuke's discomfort around women and endear her to his mother, becoming a recurring element in their interactions.

A pivotal early incident involves her tending to Shunsuke's injured foot in the girls' dormitory, violating school rules. Punished with denial of dinner, Shunsuke later secretly brings her red-bean paste bread, demonstrating his growing, albeit hidden, care. Their dynamic evolves from her unilateral affection to a mutual bond, though unspoken by Shunsuke. She remains unfazed by his tsundere exterior, seeing his underlying kindness.

Her narrative arc navigates the challenges and joys of her unconventional "SL combi" relationship with the much shorter Shunsuke, enduring his public rejections while recognizing his gradual acceptance of her presence and support. Her story extends into the sequel manga *The Kabocha Wine - Another*, which received a live-action film adaptation in 2007.
