Description
Smith is a male French Spaniel mix with black and white fur, balancing an easy-going nature with seriousness, though Cross calls him a "girl-chaser." As one of Riki's platoon leaders in the Ōu army during the Akakabuto Arc, Gin saves him from Sniper's scheme, forging their lasting friendship. Smith later guides the injured hunter Gohei to Akakabuto's final battle.

After Akakabuto's defeat in the Wolf Arc, Smith guards Futago Pass while others confront wolves. Initially skeptical and fearful of wolves, he eventually accepts Retsuga and Hyōma into the pack. Years later in "Ginga Densetsu Weed," he oversees Futago Pass and promises Tesshin to protect Gin's pregnant mate, Sakura. When Lucy's betrayal causes Sakura's disappearance, Smith launches a search, leaving Tokimune, Tony, and Akame guarding the pass. Tesshin brands him a traitor for abandoning his post, but Smith's absence stems from rescuing GB, trapped under a car. During this rescue, Smith sustains critical injuries leading to his right foreleg's amputation. Confined for months during recovery, he attempts escape to find Sakura but encounters GB, urging him to leave Nero.

Reuniting with Weed's group during rehabilitation, Smith employs combat experience to scare off a watchdog. He teams with Ibaraki to save Meru from her handler and rejoins Ken and Kagetora—dogs he taught hunting as puppies—to aid Weed's forces. Against professional killers testing agility over a ravine, Smith insists on participating but nearly falls, requiring rescue by Ken and Heuler. Assaulting the monster's mountain stronghold, he attacks the larger adversary to shield Weed, Ken, and Kagetora, latching onto its head and enduring repeated impacts against walls until the collapsing ceiling kills them both. His final plea urges Weed's group to affirm his unwavering loyalty to Gin, stressing he never betrayed him. Posthumously, Smith's spirit appears alongside John to motivate Gin during Hōgen's captivity and later bolsters Weed against Hōgen. He stands among deceased Ōu army spirits welcoming Moss into the afterlife.
