Description
Fada do Carvalho, also called the Oak Fairy or Blue Fairy, is a mystical being bound to an oak tree. Her origin lies in a branch that broke from the tree during a storm, which was later found and carved by the woodcarver Geppetto into a wooden puppet. She gave life to the puppet, Pinocchio, after hearing Geppetto’s sincere wish for a child—though she made the transformation conditional, requiring Pinocchio to prove himself righteous and kind to become a real human boy.

Throughout his journey, she acts as a guide and moral authority, stepping in at decisive moments to teach lessons or enforce consequences. When Pinocchio acts with cruelty and selfishness under the care of a nobleman, she punishes him by turning his nose into a small tree, directly confronting his flaws of disobedience, gullibility, and cruelty.

Her role proves essential in Pinocchio’s final transformation. After he retrieves a medicinal herb to heal sick children and is shot by soldiers accusing him of sorcery, the fairy drives away the army and saves him. She then transforms Pinocchio into a human child, rewarding his courage and kindness and fulfilling her original promise. With his humanity achieved, she can no longer appear to him, and they share a final farewell.
