Description
Knuckle Joe first materializes in "Here Comes the Son," consumed by a quest for vengeance against the Star Warrior he blames for his father's death. Emerging from Nightmare Enterprises' delivery system in a ghost-like state, he transforms into a humanoid form with spiky white hair, purple skin, green gloves, red shoes, and a green headband featuring a yellow jewel. Driven by conviction that Kirby is the killer, he rampages through Castle Dedede and Cappy Town. Misdirected by King Dedede, he finds Kirby and unleashes a brutal, one-sided assault when Kirby refuses to engage.
Meta Knight intervenes to halt the final blow, confessing he is the warrior responsible. He reveals Joe's father, a respected Star Warrior and Meta Knight's close ally, was abducted by Nightmare Enterprises' monsters and transformed; Meta Knight executed him as a mercy kill. Joe initially rejects this, denounces his father as weak, and discards a keepsake medallion bearing his infant likeness. Meta Knight challenges Joe to prove he hasn't become a monster by fighting Kirby. In their rematch, Kirby inhales Joe's Smash Punch to become Fighter Kirby, mirroring Joe's techniques for an even battle. Overwhelmed by rage, Joe mutates into a spiked-ball monster. Kirby counters by transforming into Needle Kirby and defeats him. This defeat, coupled with Meta Knight's warning that hatred corrupts, leads Joe to abandon his vengeance and depart Dream Land peacefully.
Knuckle Joe resurfaces in "Monster Management" with a redesigned appearance: yellow hair, blue jumpsuit, white gloves, and a white headband with a red jewel. He poses as a Monster Manager for Nightmare Enterprises, deploying minor monsters to exhaust Kirby before releasing the powerful Masher. Revealing his true role as an undercover monster hunter, he allies with Kirby to strategically defeat Masher.
His third appearance occurs in "Masher 2.0," arriving battered after battling an enhanced Masher. Unconscious and rescued by Meta Knight's subordinates, he experiences a guiding vision of his father. Awakening, he collaborates with Fighter Kirby, utilizing a memory chip hidden within his father's recovered medallion to destroy Masher 2.0.
He participates in the penultimate episode "Combat Kirby," aiding Kirby and Meta Knight in the assault against Nightmare Enterprises' core entity, eNeMeE, solidifying his role as a trusted ally.
Throughout the anime, Knuckle Joe demonstrates martial prowess with signature techniques: Vulcan Jab (rapid punches), Smash Punch (charged energy strike), and Rising Break (uppercut leap). His abilities include flight in holographic form, superhuman strength (exemplified by hurling Dedede's armored vehicle), and energy manipulation for ranged attacks. His personality evolves from headstrong brutality to heroic determination, though he retains his distinctive habit of wiping his nonexistent "nose," which Kirby frequently mimics.
