Description
Nightmare, known as eNeMeE in the English dub, reigns as the supreme antagonist across the series. He commands from a planet-sized fortress deep in space, overseeing Nightmare Enterprises. This corporation thrives on manufacturing and selling monsters across the cosmos. Clients like King Dedede deploy these creatures against Kirby, unwittingly advancing Nightmare's true aim: funding his vast military campaigns to conquer the universe by destabilizing worlds and crushing resistance.

Long before the series begins, Nightmare waged a brutal campaign for galactic domination with his monster armies. This ignited war with the heroic Star Warriors, who opposed his tyranny. His forces nearly annihilated them, leaving Meta Knight among the scarce survivors. During this conflict, Nightmare's creations spawned at least one anomaly—a being defying his control, heavily implied to be Kirby or potentially Meta Knight. His dark magic also corrupted individuals like Knuckle Joe's father, twisting them into loyal minions.

Physically, Nightmare manifests as a spectral entity capable of shifting size from concealed to titanic proportions, dwarfing starships. A distinctive cloak hides a void within him, rendering him impervious; conventional physical and energy attacks vanish into this emptiness. His powers encompass dream manipulation to invade minds and inflict nightmares, and telekinesis, demonstrated by hurling an asteroid at Planet Popstar to trigger global disaster. His sole known weakness is the Star Rod, a vulnerability he guards meticulously.

Operating primarily from the shadows, Nightmare rarely engages directly. He monitors Kirby's battles against his monsters, initially dismissing the young Star Warrior as inconsequential. As Kirby foils more threats, Nightmare escalates his response, deploying warship fleets like the Destroya and engineering schemes such as embedding Noddys in pillows to possess Dream Land's populace. His tactics include psychological manipulation, exploiting Dedede's greed and later brainwashing both Dedede and Escargoon to abduct Tiff.

His defeat comes in the finale when Kirby pursues him into a dreamscape—a realm where his invulnerability weakens. Kirby inhales the Warp Star to gain the Star Rod ability and unleashes its purifying light, destroying Nightmare. His final Japanese dialogue implies he embodies fear itself, suggesting his essence persists wherever darkness lingers in universal hearts. With his demise, Nightmare Enterprises collapses, leaving no trace.
