Description
Hayato Shingu endured profound childhood trauma when Egrigori operatives slaughtered his village and burned it down. At seven, he witnessed Keith Black murder his parents before severing his left arm. This limb was replaced by the White Knight ARMS unit, a nanomachine-based prosthetic integrating with his biology. Raised thereafter by his grandfather, Juzo Shingu, he trained in the Shingu style of martial arts. Haunted by his parents' deaths, he spent the next decade consumed by revenge, relentlessly hunting and eliminating Egrigori agents wherever he found them.

His personality is intensely passionate and emotionally volatile, often shifting rapidly between rage, shock, and grief. A powerful, instinctive sense of justice drives him to instantly leap to the defense of the helpless or confront perceived evildoers, initially manifesting as relentless aggression towards Egrigori. His encounter and eventual alliance with Ryo Takatsuki, Takeshi Tomoe, and Kei Kuruma marked a significant turning point. Through these relationships, he gradually developed greater self-control, self-awareness, and compassion, tempering his rage. This emotional growth was crucial to mastering the 'Heart of Water' technique, a martial arts skill enabling him to intuitively read opponents and predict movements, which he used to defeat adversaries like the mutant martial artist Kou Karunagi.

His journey culminated in a fundamental shift: he consciously abandoned his quest for vengeance, embracing the role of protector. This decision intrinsically unlocked the ultimate potential of his ARMS unit. The White Knight, residing in his left arm, embodies White Alice's protective will. Its base state grants accelerated healing far beyond normal human capabilities, even without transformation. The unit generates hardened combat blades and projectile launchers for close-quarters combat; these blades are noted as potentially the hardest substance an ARMS can produce, though effectiveness is influenced by his emotional state and skill. The unit can also enter a half-transformed state where nanomachines spread throughout his body, significantly enhancing all physical attributes.

His transition to protector directly activated the White Knight's ultimate form: a powerful armored knight wielding the Lance of Mistilteinn. This lance projects an anti-ARMS nano-virus capable of permanently negating other ARMS units' regenerative properties, serving as a specific countermeasure against threats like the Jabberwock. The lance itself evolved further into a double-pointed energy weapon capable of destroying ARMS nanomachines by projecting an intense energy field with every swing. His initially contentious relationship with fellow ARMS wielder Kei Kuruma evolved considerably through constant arguments and friction, gradually giving way to mutual respect and deepening connection, developing into a sustained romantic relationship by the series epilogue. He also possesses the ability to sense the vibrational presence of other nearby ARMS units, often feeling it as an electric sensation in his prosthetic arm. Following the destruction of Egrigori's headquarters and a period where the ARMS units became dormant, he, like the other ARMS teens, retained significant combat prowess honed through their experiences, capable of effectively confronting threats even without immediately accessing his ARMS transformations.
