Edel appears in distinct forms within the *Princess Tutu* anime and manga. In the anime, she manifests as a life-sized wooden puppet crafted by Drosselmeyer to narrate his story. She typically arrives bearing a barrel organ playing "The Dance of the Automatons" from *Coppélia*, signaling her mechanical nature, and offers cryptic guidance or stories while displaying a tray of creatively named jewels. Designed initially without emotions, interactions with Ahiru unexpectedly spark genuine feelings within her. Her story concludes when she deliberately ignites herself to provide warmth for the wounded Fakir and create a guiding light for Princess Tutu and Mytho's escape. Before the fire consumes her, she requests they dance a pas de deux. Charon later gathers her remnants, constructing a new doll named Uzura from unburned pieces; Uzura is a distinct entity sharing no consciousness with Edel. The manga reimagines Edel as a human woman, omitting Drosselmeyer. She operates a ballet shop and gifts Ahiru a pendant containing an egg-shaped jewel, enabling her transformation into Princess Tutu. Unlike her anime counterpart, this Edel actively manipulates events, encouraging both Princess Tutu and Princess Kraehe (Rue) to collect Mytho’s heart shards. Her true motive surfaces later: to revive the Raven within herself using Mytho’s pure heart, intending to plunge the world into darkness. She captures Mytho and threatens Fakir and Rue to force Princess Tutu’s surrender. Though Tutu relinquishes her transformative pendant, the purity of Mytho’s heart resists corruption. Tutu and Mytho perform a pas de deux, generating a purifying light that disintegrates Edel completely. Additionally, her name translates to "noble" in German, and a connection exists to Cinderella’s fairy godmother adopting the name "Edel" while disguised as a maid.
