Rue, also known as Princess Kraehe, lives a dual existence. Crows serving the Raven stole her in infancy, and he raised her as his daughter under the name Kraehe, meaning crow or raven in German. Manipulated by the Raven, she believed herself his cursed biological child trapped in an unattractive human form. Her devotion to Mytho, then an emotionless prince, sparked when he drove away crows harassing her. The Raven twisted this, declaring their enemy Mytho the only being capable of loving her. This fueled her determination to earn his affection. She often danced for him in their youth, but his departures left her desolate.
When Mytho enrolled at Gold Crown Academy for ballet, the Raven commanded her to pursue him in human guise. Accidentally calling him "Prince" triggered suppression of her Kraehe memories, leading her to fully adopt the Rue identity. As Rue, she excelled in ballet, earning admiration but remaining distant from peers. Her demeanor alternated between aloofness and possessiveness toward Mytho, though she retained underlying kindness and capacity for friendship. The suppressed Kraehe identity resurfaced as Princess Kraehe, Rue's magical counterpart with altered appearance: hair styled upward, a black feather-trimmed dress, black tights, and black ballet slippers. As Kraehe, she embodied Rue's darker traits—intense jealousy, pride, and manipulation. Her goal became obstructing Princess Tutu’s efforts to restore Mytho’s shattered heart, fearing a complete, feeling Mytho would reject her. The Raven reinforced this fear through emotional abuse and lies about her inherent unlovability.
Her actions escalated in the narrative’s second season. She corrupted one of Mytho’s recovered heart shards with the Raven’s blood, twisting him into the cruel Prince of Crows. Initial satisfaction faded as his violence grew, seeding doubt. A later revelation exposed the Raven’s deceit: he was not her biological father and had kidnapped her solely to exploit her for his resurrection. This truth shattered her loyalty. Despite facilitating Mytho’s corruption, her love for him proved genuine. When the Raven moved to consume Mytho’s heart, she intervened, offering her own heart instead. This sacrifice disrupted the Raven’s power and freed Mytho. Restored as Prince Siegfried, he acknowledged her devotion and invited her to become his princess, fulfilling her deepest aspiration.
Her relationship with Ahiru, the girl behind Princess Tutu, shifted from tentative friendship to hostility over Tutu, then to reconciliation and renewed friendship after the conflict. She viewed Fakir, Mytho’s protective knight, as an obstacle to Mytho’s attention. Her dynamic with the Raven centered on his emotional manipulation and exploitation of her insecurities and desire for love, persisting until the revelation of her true origins.
