Description
Stampy is a Maximal appearing across multiple Transformers continuities, most prominently in Beast Wars Neo media. Serving as a young recruit under Big Convoy's command, he is characterized by notable cowardice that often frustrates his teammates, yet maintains a cheerful disposition that endears him to others who try to help him overcome his fears. His beast mode transforms into a rabbit, while an additional "Scissor Mode" allows him to function as diamond-sharp blades; this form requires another Transformer to carry him, limiting its effectiveness. His innate speed and extremely sensitive auditory sensors make him an exceptionally skilled scout, capable of gathering intelligence and escaping dangerous situations intact, aligning with his strong self-preservation instinct. He carries a deep attachment to his mother, whose picture he keeps in a locket, and prefers space carrots as his favorite food.
Throughout the Beast Wars Neo anime, Stampy demonstrates gradual development. As part of Big Convoy's trainee unit investigating Lio Convoy's disappearance and collecting Angolmois energy capsules, his initial missions highlight a tendency toward panic and conflict avoidance. Early episodes show him hiding during confrontations, falling backward in fright when startled, and expressing reluctance towards training or exploration. However, critical moments reveal underlying courage and resourcefulness. On Maderan, his caution prevented teammates Break and Longrack from triggering an electrical trap. When Predacons captured his comrades, Stampy managed temporary rescues before Magmatron intervened. He ultimately launched a signal flare to alert Big Convoy and attempted a solo attack on Magmatron despite sustaining critical damage from Guiledart, necessitating CR chamber repairs and earning recognition. Similarly, on P-0908, he detected Saberback's ambush early and later located a lost Angolmois capsule, contributions initially dismissed by Break and Colada until their value became clear. His growth culminates in "Hang in There, Stampy," where, as the sole free Maximal on a cloud planet, he devises a strategy to defeat Predacons, rescue teammates, and secure an Angolmois capsule alone.
Expanded media adds layers to his background and later life. The BomBom manga establishes he belongs to a rabbit Transformer sub-race originating from a planet colonized by Tasmania Kid, remaining unclothed unlike others of his kind. A romantic subplot involves him falling in love with a jellyfish Transformer named Queen Rage during a mission; duty compelled him to leave her, though he vowed to return. After serving under Big Convoy, he advanced to become an officer in the Cybertronian army, consistently sending portions of his wages to his mother. The TransTech continuity identifies his parents as avid stamp collectors Kitte Shūshū and Z Grill, noting he maintained correspondence with his mother during energy-capsule missions. In combat-focused continuities, Stampy assumes more experienced roles: during the Quintesson invasion of Cybertron in the 3H comics, he partnered with Slapper to plant explosives on an enemy dropship before escaping its destruction. The IDW Beast Wars comics position him within Lio Convoy’s special operations unit, the Pack, displaying eagerness during missions to prehistoric Earth. Here, he effectively battles Predacons like Manta Ray and Scavenger, adopts a cheerleading role during group efforts, and actively seeks assignments despite occasional dismissal by commanders, contrasting with his earlier anxiety.
Stampy's legacy includes a namesake character in the Transformers: Animated continuity, a distinct Autobot motorcycle unrelated to the Beast Wars Neo Maximal.
