Description
Archadis serves as a Predacon under Magmatron's command, transforming into an Archaeopteryx beast mode. Consumed by vanity, he obsessively maintains his appearance and plumage, constantly preening while expressing arrogant superiority. This self-aggrandizing attitude permeates combat, where he belittles foes and allies alike with psycho-sexual taunts. Preferring ranged combat to avoid damaging his form, he utilizes projectile weapons: "Wing Bombs" dropped from his wings, fully automatic "Wing Gundreads" cannons, and a "Founder Shot" pistol mounted on his right forearm with a geared quick-draw mechanism. If opponents close in, he typically retreats. His behavior earns him widespread dislike from Maximals and fellow Predacons, particularly drawing Guiledart's ire.
In the Beast Wars Neo cartoon, Archadis posed as an events coordinator on Aquarius. He orchestrated a scheme to lure Sharp Edge into a martial arts tournament meant to challenge Big Convoy. When Big Convoy didn't appear, Archadis deceived Maximals into an underwater fighting ring, capturing them as hostages. After Big Convoy intervened, Sharp Edge, realizing he was manipulated, turned on Archadis and attacked him with his signature move.
The Beast Wars Neo comic features Archadis hired by Magmatron as a hitman targeting Maximals scaling a Greengard mountain peak for an Angolmois Capsule. Exploiting his flight advantage against grounded foes, he attacked systematically. Focusing on Stampy, who anchored the team's rope, Archadis menaced him with his "Ryūsei Kochō Ken" ("Dino Star Ancient Bird Sword" or "Ancient Avian Blade of the Dragon World"), making unsettling, suggestive remarks about the impending strike. Stampy, motivated by memories of his mother, executed a powerful somersault kick that defeated Archadis, sending him flying and leaving his mask behind.
His other continuity appearances are brief. In IDW's Beast Wars comics (The Ascending #4), he appeared among Angolmois-infected crowds. During Beast Wars: Uprising, he joined the Resistance against the Builders. Lio Convoy assigned him and Sling as Magmatron's unit overseers. Archadis participated in a mission to extract or eliminate the traitor Snapper from a Builder convoy, though his haughty demeanor failed to command loyalty from Magmatron's crew. Post-mission, he remained loyal to the Resistance, returning to Lio Convoy when the crew formed the Ex-Bots. An Ask Vector Prime entry notes an alternate universe where Archadis, protoformed with a female chassis, identified as male and was mentioned in that universe's Arcee's lecture. In the Legends World, he worked at a "little brother cafe" managed by Starscream.
Archadis originated from a Japanese Television Magazine design contest; the winning design was initially conceived as female, later referenced in official material exploring gender identity. His color scheme draws from paleoartist Zdeněk Burian's Archaeopteryx depiction. He has multiple toy releases: the original 1999 Beast Wars Neo Deluxe figure transforms into an Archaeopteryx, featuring spring-loaded wing triggers extending the wings to drop Wing Bombs and reveal non-firing Wing Gundreads. In robot mode, rotating the tail shield activates a geared mechanism flipping the Founder Shot into position. A 2007 redeco for the Beast Wars Telemocha Series altered the color scheme to better match that line, though it erroneously included a Dinobot spark crystal. This mold was also used for Beast Machines Airraptor.
