Description
Yuzuhiko Tachibana is a 15-year-old second-year middle school student and the youngest child in the Tachibana family. Standing 155 cm tall, he participates in the Baseball Club at his unnamed middle school. His appearance features short fluffy hair, sometimes shaved on the sides after haircuts. His attire varies: early media depicts him in a green shirt and blue pants, later seasons switch to an orange shirt with blue pants, his school uniform is a black gakuran collar shirt, black pants, and white shoes, and he wears matching teal pajamas.

Yuzuhiko exhibits a dual personality. At home, he adopts a strict, reserved persona, highly critical of family members' minor lapses in manners or carelessness. He intensely dislikes unsolicited attention, especially his mother's public discussions of his habits, like his pickiness about natto bowls, and childhood nicknames like "Yuu-chan," preferring to be treated as an adult. Conversely, at school, he displays a free-spirited, sociable demeanor, frequently joking, impersonating teachers, and engaging in playful antics with friends such as Fujino. He enjoys popularity among peers and maintains a close circle including best friend Fujino (who harbors a crush on Yuzuhiko's sister Mikan), timid Nasuo Arai, outgoing Sudou, and eccentric Yuri Ishida. A fan club led by Sayu Kawashima—using his code name "Hibari-chan"—admires him, though he remains largely oblivious to her affections.

His interests include video games, music, and secretly collecting memorabilia related to the fictional idol Marumi Maruno to avoid ridicule. He is notably particular about food, especially mayonnaise brands, and frequently critiques his mother's frugal shopping choices. Academically proficient, he nonetheless feels intimidated by his teacher, Miss Hara.

Yuzuhiko demonstrates responsibility and warmth in specific contexts. He acts as a caring older brother figure to Tatkun, ensuring the child enjoys their time together while imparting life lessons. During family crises, like the body-switching incident between his mother and sister in the 2003 film, he collaborates with his father to resolve the situation, and his problem-solving skills are recurrently highlighted in addressing household mishaps.

Background details reveal his name derives from the yuzu fruit, aligning with his sister Mikan’s citrus-themed name. Early manga and anime iterations used kanji for his surname (立花), later switching to katakana (タチバナ) for international adaptations. His development across the series underscores a consistent tension between his desire for autonomy and his embeddedness in family dynamics, without significant alterations to his core traits.
