Description
Shiki Tademaru is a 14-year-old half-human, half-arachne hybrid with light purple hair and lilac eyes. He wears a purple jacket featuring a black spider web motif, black-and-white striped sleeves and collar, a gray t-shirt, white pants, and dark shoes with magenta soles.
Born on November 10 in Kinshi-Go, Gunma Prefecture, Shiki lived with his arachne mother, Kumi Yamagumonoko, after his human father’s death—officially deemed an accidental fall. His uncle, Akio Tademaru, then took custody, falsely claiming both parents were deceased. Akio manipulated Kumi into traumatic experiments to breed a hybrid producing golden healing silk. Over six years, Kumi was forcibly bred with kemono, resulting in Shiki’s half-sister, Aya Tademaru. Shiki witnessed one assault after disobeying his mother’s warnings, suffering severe psychological trauma.
Shiki’s spider-kemono abilities allow him to create threads from sweat or saliva:
- **Hardening Thread**: solidifies with water contact, liquefies when heated.
- **Melting Thread**: dissolves under heat.
- **Stealth Thread**: grants camouflage/invisibility when ingested with water and activated via sweat.
- **Bug Camouflage**: enables near-complete invisibility.
His physical enhancements include wall-crawling and crafting thread-based footwear: Air Model (high jumps), Spike Model (offensive spikes), Speed Model (increased mobility), and Water Model (water-walking). By merging threads with ally Akira’s ice powers, he developed techniques like Ice Spike Model. Overusing these abilities causes dehydration.
Initially cold and arrogant, Shiki bullied peers like Kabane and rejected hybrid camaraderie—masking deep insecurity and loneliness from trauma. He operates analytically during missions but reacts impulsively under pressure. Joining Inugami’s detective agency catalyzed growth through colleague interactions, especially Kabane’s support during the Kinshi-Go incident. Confronting Akio and discovering his imprisoned mother and sister led him to reject vengeance, opting to let Akio live without legacy, reflecting newfound empathy and forgiveness.
Through missions, Shiki increasingly prioritizes team protection and acknowledges emotional reliance on others. He retains a quick temper around animals that dislike him and fastidious habits like wearing cooking aprons to avoid stains. He spends his salary on fashion, video games, and soba noodles, preferring modestly dressed, stylish girls.
After Kinshi-Go, Akio died fleeing in an explosion. Shiki remains with Inugami’s agency, balancing kemono heritage and human connections.
