Hanji Urabe, known internationally as Jack Morris, is a Japanese soccer player specializing in defensive midfield or defense. Beginning as captain of Nishigaoka Elementary School, his leadership and defensive prowess secured his place in the Nankatsu City selection team during the Kids’ Dream arc. Possessing a cocky demeanor and quick wit, his rivalry and camaraderie with teammates like Ryo Ishizaki provided consistent comic relief through spirited clashes and banter. Leading Otomo Middle School as captain, he formed the "Otomo Quartet" with Takeshi Kishida, Masao Nakayama, and Koji Nishio. The group confronted protagonist Tsubasa Ozora but was ultimately bested by his evolving tactics. Urabe later transitioned from player to supporter, cheering on Japan’s International Jr. World Cup campaign from the sidelines. In the Battle of World Youth arc, Urabe nearly abandoned soccer post-high school to inherit his family’s tofu business. Coach Gamo intervened, recruiting him for the Real Japan 7 (R.J.7), a training unit tasked with testing the All Japan Youth team through intense matches. Though initially seen as a rival, Urabe’s role was later unveiled as a tactical ploy to fortify the national squad. He formally joined All Japan Youth following a teammate’s injury, contributing to pivotal games like the final against Brazil Youth. Turning professional, he signed with Jubilo Iwata alongside Ishizaki as a defender. Early friction emerged over Misaki’s prominence, but Urabe’s collaboration with the team proved vital in triumphs such as their victory over Urawa Red Diamonds. His career expanded with selections for Japan’s U-22 squad in the Golden-23 and Rising Sun arcs, cementing his reputation as a versatile utility player prized for relentless energy and unifying presence over flashy skill. Urabe’s arc traces a journey from impulsive youth to steadfast team pillar. His bond with Ishizaki balances rivalry with deep mutual respect, while his prioritization of collective success above individual acclaim reflects matured resolve. Though lacking technical flair, his tenacity and adaptability ensure enduring value as a unifying force within Japan’s soccer narrative.
