TV-Series
Description
Gai Shishiô began as a human astronaut and test pilot for the Space Development Corporation. A near-fatal 2003 orbital mission, involving a collision with the extraterrestrial object EI-01, changed his fate. The mechanical lion Galeon intervened, destroying EI-01 and transporting the critically injured Gai back to Earth. To save his son, Dr. Leo Shishiou used advanced technology derived from Galeon to rebuild Gai's body into a cyborg form powered by a G-Stone mechanical heart. Legally declared dead to conceal the project, Gai joined the defense organization Gutsy Geoid Guard (GGG) as its primary pilot, codenamed "Cyborg Guy".

As a cyborg, Gai possessed superhuman strength, speed, and durability. His body incorporated specialized combat systems: the protective Ultimate Armor, a data-gathering lens activated during "E-quip mode," and the GaoBrace on his left arm. The GaoBrace housed his G-Stone energy source, enabled communication with Galeon via a Projection Beam, and stored the Will Knife—a G-Stone blade whose sharpness adjusted according to Gai's willpower. He could enter "Hyper Mode" by tapping into energy batteries adjacent to his face, amplifying his combat capabilities for precisely three minutes and enabling limited operation in vacuum.

Gai piloted the mechanoid GaiGar through Fusion with Galeon, combining further with GaoMachines via Final Fusion to form the Super Mechanoid GaoGaiGar. His combat style emphasized pragmatism, often employing preemptive strikes or swiftly disabling enemy weapons. He demonstrated fierce protectiveness toward civilians, especially the young Mamoru Amami, whose purification abilities were vital against extraterrestrial threats. Gai maintained a romantic relationship with GGG operator Mikoto Utsugi, his high-school sweetheart, though his cyborg status initially imposed physical limitations.

Following the television series, Gai underwent a profound transformation. During a confrontation with Zonuda, he harnessed Mamoru's latent powers to perform Purification, expelling alien corruption from himself and Mikoto. This catalyzed his evolution into an "Evoluder," a superhuman state where his body absorbed the G-Stone from his GaoBrace. As an Evoluder, Gai retained enhanced physical attributes and gained technopathic abilities, allowing direct interface with machinery—evidenced when he piloted the severely damaged GaoFighGar by mirroring his movements. He could emit a green glow for flight and indefinite space survival, displayed a distinctive "G" symbol on his hands during power activation, and adopted the title "superhuman Evoluder".

In *GaoGaiGar FINAL*, Gai piloted Genesic GaoGaiGar, evolving further into a "Genesic server." This state featured pulsating white circuitry across his body that linked him to the mecha's systems but rendered him vulnerable to Chemical Nanomachines, which exploited these pathways to attack him internally. During the conflict in the Trinary Solar System, he resisted Triple Zero's corrupting influence long enough to return to Earth. Residual corruption necessitated intervention; the Somnium Lamia lured him into battle to accelerate the corruption, extracted Triple Zero and microscopic G-Stones from his cells, and condensed them into an Animus Fruit. This process reverted Gai to a "Semi-Evoluder" state, akin to Mikoto.

Gai's relationships defined key aspects of his character. His bond with Mamoru functioned as a quasi-familial connection, driving him to extreme defensive measures. He married Mikoto during *FINAL*, resolving earlier physical limitations. His familial ties included his father Leo (GGG's chief engineer), mother Kizuna, uncle Liger, cousins Renais Kerdif-Shishioh and Shigeru Akamatsu, and niece Sakura. In the *Super Robot Wars W* crossover, he declined an invitation to join the Golion team as "Rokulion," citing naming incompatibility, while backstory confirmed shared origins between Galeon and Golion.

Post-cyborg reconstruction, Gai stood 201 cm tall, categorizing him as a "Gentle Giant" outside combat. His surname "Shishiou" translates to "Lion King," reflecting animal motifs in his design and Galeon's lion form. Alternate spellings of his given name (Gai/Guy) stem from kanji versus codename katakana usage.
