Description
Karin Kokubu is a 13-year-old seventh-grade student at Sei Ringo Gakuen. She sports curly orange hair, typically tied in a high ponytail secured by a pink bow, featuring ringlet forelocks and a tail-like tip. Her school uniform includes a red buttoned jacket with a white collar and brooch ribbon, a red high-waist miniskirt, white socks, and black shoes. Karin's personality blends clumsiness with deep compassion, prompting her to offer an apple to an apparently injured yellow pig. This pig is revealed as Tonrariano III, prince of the apple-shaped planet Buringo. In gratitude, he bestows upon her a "Dream Tonpact" that affixes a pig snout to her nose, enabling her transformation.
By chanting "BA BI BU BE BOorin" or "Ba Bi Bu Be Burin," Karin transforms into Tonde Burin (also called Buurin or Super Pig), a pink piglet possessing superpowers and wearing a red and blue cape. She initially resents becoming a pig, longing instead to resemble a traditional magical girl like her idol "Cutey Chao." Tonrariano explains that collecting 108 pearls through good deeds will grant her a human-like heroic form. Each pearl embodies positive karma, with misuse causing pearl loss. A critical condition exists: discovery of her secret identity results in permanent pig form.
As Burin, she gains abilities like flight and combat using the "Buu-Ribbon." Her missions involve rescuing people from dangers such as fires or accidents. She balances her civilian life while concealing her identity, particularly from her father Shinichiro (a newspaper editor pursuing Burin scoops), younger brother Shouhei, and classmate Jimmy Matsumoto, who investigates Burin sightings. Karin harbors a crush on Koichi Mizuno, captain of the soccer team, though he unknowingly admires Burin. This creates tension, compounded by Takuma Mushanokoji's affection for Karin, which provokes jealousy from class rival Keiko Kuroha. Karin's friendships include the supportive Masami Yamakawa and shy classmate Kaoru Hidaka.
Her development centers on balancing heroism with personal challenges. In the series climax, her classmates discover her secret, triggering the permanent pig-form consequence. Upon collecting all 108 pearls, she regains her human form and achieves a human-like superheroine appearance: a pink high-leg leotard over light-pink tights, slip shoes, and her signature cape.
