Description
Gallon, known as Jon Talbain outside Japan, originates from the Darkstalkers video game series and related media. Born in England to a human mother and a werewolf father, his mother died shortly after his birth, leaving him with no contact with his father. He lived peacefully as a human until his first transformation during a full moon led to his rejection by society. Despite the shock of discovering his nature as a Darkstalker, he never blamed his absent parents.
To leash his primal instincts and potentially reverse his curse, he devoted himself to martial arts training, believing maintaining his inner humanity might restore his human form. Following the defeat of the alien Pyron, he temporarily regained his human form but was met with fear and rejection from adults, finding acceptance only among children. This human form proved unstable, and he transformed back into a werewolf, confirming the permanence of his condition.
Within the Majigen realm, he overcame a manifestation of his inner darkness known as Dark Talbain, a malevolent version of himself. This victory granted him greater control over his transformations and allowed him to accept his werewolf nature. He resolved to live fully as a werewolf while retaining his humanity, demonstrated by his care for two orphaned children. His personality is typically aggressive and anti-social in interactions, though his compassion for children reveals a gentler side.
As a fighter, he merges natural werewolf abilities—enhanced strength, speed, and a heightened sense of smell—with martial arts proficiency, utilizing nunchaku-like techniques and ki-based attacks. His fighting style emphasizes agility and close-quarters combat. His werewolf physiology grants him greater power under a full moon but also the traditional weakness to silver, which causes him significant harm.
His lineage traces to the Kreutz family, one of the seven noble families of the Makai realm. His father, Baraba Kreutz, the "Wolf Lord" of Makai and leader of the Kreutz royal guard, briefly visited the human world twenty years prior to the events and encountered Gallon's mother, though he maintains no relationship with his son.
In animated adaptations like the *Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge* OVA, Gallon appears as part of the ensemble, reflecting his game portrayal as an anti-hero caught in the conflict against Pyron. His role in this series mirrors his narrative of grappling with his dual nature while participating in the larger battle among Darkstalkers.
