Hailing from a century-long military lineage as the only daughter of Admiral Takashi Hayase, she pursued a military career driven by both legacy and her desire to remain close to her first love, Riber Fruhling, a UN Spacy officer. His tragic death during the return fleet’s destruction from Salla Mars Base, shortly after their parting, deeply shaped her resolve.

Graduating first in her class at the UN Spacy Officers’ Academy, Misa secured a bridge position aboard the SDF-1 Macross. Rising swiftly through the ranks—from First Lieutenant to Captain, then Major—she ultimately assumed command of the SDF-2 Megaroad-01 and its crew by the end of her distinguished service.

Her professional rapport with pilot Hikaru Ichijyo evolved through shared trials into a profound romantic bond, culminating in marriage and the birth of their daughter, Miku Ichijyo, in 2013. In 2012, Misa and Hikaru embarked on the Megaroad-01’s stellar exploration mission. Four years later, the vessel vanished near the galactic core, leaving them and the crew listed as missing.
