Description
Yatch, also called Yashichi, is a fairy summoned from the Muglox world through a yellow cocoa mug to serve as Azumi Hidaka's partner. As a ninja fairy, he wields a triangle as his magical instrument for rhythmic attacks and spellcasting during battles and missions.
He shares a long-standing rivalry with Mirmo, frequently clashing due to their competitive history. Despite this antagonism, Yatch displays loyalty, aiding Mirmo and others during critical moments like rescuing partners or facing threats such as Darkman. His character evolves from a self-serving antagonist into a reluctant ally, revealing hidden depths of solidarity.
Yatch leads two henchmen, Sazo and Hanzo, acting as their mentor and Big Brother figure. He trains them in ninja techniques and involves them in schemes, yet shows genuine concern for their well-being. He exhibits a habit of sketching girls' underwear, a trait that embarrasses Azumi but which he considers a cherished hobby.
His relationship with Azumi is complex; initially resenting her domineering attitude and being treated like a slave for chores, he gradually develops a soft spot for her, acknowledging an unbreakable bond. In a pivotal act of devotion, he attempts a heroic sacrifice using forbidden magic that would petrify him permanently, aiming to grant Azumi a single wish – hoping she would wish for a boyfriend. Moved by his selflessness, Azumi instead wishes for his restoration, solidifying their mutual, if grudging, affection.
As a former executive apprentice of the Warumo Gang, he initially pursues Mirmo under their orders but transitions into a Punch-Clock Villain role, cooperating with rivals when off-mission. His favorite food is karintos.
In later story arcs, like the conflict with Darkman, he contributes to combined magical efforts against antagonists. His development peaks when he temporarily severs ties with the Warumo Gang, cementing his shift toward teamwork and redemption. Throughout, his traits as a "Jerk with a Heart of Gold" balance abrasive behavior with underlying kindness and courage.
