TV-Series
Description
Shinji Kazama sports dark black hair and dark teal or grey eyes, complemented by pale skin and noticeable dark circles beneath them. He habitually wears his school uniform layered over a hoodie, likely concealing extensive burn scars acquired in a fire five years prior. These scars serve as a permanent reminder of the incident that caused his death. In life, Shinji displayed a quick temper, heroic impulses, and academic drive, exemplified by his frustration over scoring 98/100 on a test. He grew up alongside Yuuka Sasaki, attending the same schools, though he actively disliked her and avoided her advances. Shinji died during a date with another girl at a movie theater engulfed in flames – a fire intentionally set by Yuuka due to her obsessive jealousy over his relationship.

Yuuka, possessing the genuine necromancy talent, subsequently reanimated Shinji's corpse without his consent. She manipulates his body to act as her fabricated "boyfriend," a relationship that never existed. This reanimation transformed Shinji into an undead puppet, stripped of his original personality, autonomy, and emotions. His reanimated form exhibits a quiet, gloomy, and reclusive demeanor, frequently skipping classes to isolate himself in his dormitory – a stark contrast to his formerly assertive and temperamental nature, as Yuuka wholly controls his actions and expressions.

Shinji was initially believed to possess necromancy, demonstrated publicly when he reanimated Tsunekichi Hatadaira's corpse during a funeral, displaying the ability to control dead bodies, share their sensory input, and access their memories or talents. However, this ability actually belonged to Yuuka, channeled through his body. Shinji's true talent, superhuman strength, remained concealed during his reanimated existence. Official Council records attributed a "Potential Kill Count" of 300,000+ people to him, likely reflecting the perceived threat of his reanimated form under Yuuka's control, not his actions while alive.

Shinji's story concludes with his body remaining under Yuuka's control, functioning solely as a vessel for her desires. His reanimated form appears primarily in episodes 6-8 of the anime adaptation, with later episodes featuring his corpse or brief flashbacks. His background, death, and the nature of his reanimation are revealed through investigations and flashbacks involving other characters.
