OVA
Description
Tsubomi, the central protagonist known as Papillon Rose across all media iterations, begins her journey as a high school student working part-time at the Lingerie Pub Papillon in the 2003 OVA. Her first transformation into the magical girl Papillon Rose follows a romantic encounter with Hikaru (Dandy Lion), who becomes her lover and adviser. In her transformed state, she wears a rose-pink lingerie costume and introduces herself as "the crimson butterfly of the night."

By the 2006 TV series *Papillon Rose: The New Season*, Tsubomi is in her 20s, employed at the New Papillon maid cafe and spa. After losing her memory, she initially forgets her Papillon Rose identity until alien attacks restore her memories. She reassembles the Papillon team to defend Earth, retaining her crimson transformation and signature catchphrase. Due to broadcast restrictions, her weapon evolves from a vibrator in the OVA to censored alternatives in the TV series, though her primary attack remains "Rose Pinkish Dynamic."

The *Papillon Rose R* storyline introduces significant developments: Tsubomi contracts a lethal STD from an unknown partner, later revealed as a viral weapon deployed by the antagonist Gel Dynasty. This leads to the arrival of Kotsubomi, a girl claiming to be Tsubomi’s future daughter, who time-travels to identify her father. During this arc, encounters with drug dealer Razy Minowa facilitate Tsubomi's upgrade to "Papillon Flora," gaining enhanced abilities and a frillier, more revealing costume. Razy's "anthers" (a G-rated drug metaphor) also enable new transformations for her teammates.

Her character exhibits traits of compulsive compensated dating and sexual promiscuity, driving plot points like the STD pandemic and Kotsubomi’s quest. She forms alliances with additional soldiers like Papillon Dahlia and clashes with the opposing Susukino Faction Papillon Soldiers (Adonis and Lupinus). Tsubomi’s leadership evolves from naive impulsiveness to strategic coordination, though she remains prone to jealousy and interpersonal conflicts.

In movie finale concepts, Tsubomi and allies are resurrected after sacrificial defeats. She gains further upgrades, including a fusion with Papillon Violet, an expy of Homura Akemi. Her relationship with Hikaru/Dandy Lion concludes ambiguously; he is replaced by Razy in later arcs but reappears posthumously in the movie rebuilds.

Throughout all media, her adviser is Rama, a talking cat with a butterfly mark. Her civilian name, meaning "flower bud," reflects her role as the narrative’s foundational figure.
