Description
Shun Nonomura is a third-generation resident of Monopolis, a lunar mining colony. His older brother, Tatsuya Nonomura, led a rebellion against the Earth Federal Government and was imprisoned on Saturn after the destruction of Bartholomew station. Shun himself initially holds an apolitical stance despite the colonists' oppressive conditions and resentment toward Earth's authoritarian rule.

He lives on Level 3 of the colony with his parents and grandfather. Shun possesses technical aptitude, modifying mining equipment like repurposing a robot's mechanical arm. This skill inadvertently thrusts him into the conflict when he uses the arm to kill a police attack dog pursuing rebel leader Dog McCoy, who was hiding nearby. McCoy acknowledges Shun's act and removes the dog's corpse to protect him.

Shun's family connection to Tatsuya leads to his arrest by lunar commander Alex Leiger, who falsely identifies him as the new rebellion leader. Imprisoned alongside captured rebels, Shun witnesses McCoy stage a jailbreak using mining equipment converted into weapons; McCoy explicitly credits Shun for inspiring this tactic. After escaping, McCoy reveals to Shun that Earth authorities orchestrated the Bartholomew station incident to frame the rebels, a revelation contributing to Shun's shift toward supporting the rebellion.

Despite objections from his girlfriend Rachel about his growing involvement, Shun participates in rebel operations, including destroying a police Debugger vehicle during a mining camp battle. He is tasked with guarding Melinda Hearst, Leiger's fiancée, after rebels take her hostage. While guarding her, Shun questions Hearst about Earth, reflecting his lack of firsthand experience. His grandfather provides historical context about the colony's founding and their people's reverence for the alien artifact Dallos, taking Shun to a lunar cemetery commemorating early colonization tragedies.

As tensions escalate, Shun fully aligns with the rebels, joining Dog McCoy's forces in their uprising against Earth's military. The conflict culminates in the activation of the dormant Dallos structure, which intervenes in the battle. Following this event, Shun and Rachel formally join McCoy's guerrilla group to continue the resistance effort.
